We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle C. Abraham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabrielle C., how do you think about risk?
Taking risks and believing in yourself is so important in life! I’ve taken so many risks that have led me to incredible places. I took a risk and traveled across the world by myself and to do my Master’s degree in New Zealand and what an amazing, culturally rich experience! I took a risk and posted my first video to youtube last year during quarantine and look at me now! Almost 2k subscribers in, working with brands and making an impact on people’s lives. I meet young women who tell me I inspire them and it honestly warms my heart! Inspiring people to be unapologetically themselves!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am definitely a diverse individual and I meticulously balance my careers, hobbies, and business.
Professionally, I am a Geographic Information Systems research associate. I have an MSc in Geospatial Science and work with an amazing team on the Surviving Storms | Caribbean Cyclone Cartography Project. I am extremely proud of the work that we have done and the research and stories of the people of my homeland Dominica. Our focus is on the survival, and recovery of the people from storms passed and how we are adapting and becoming more resilient in the future.
Another hat I wear is that of a seasonal event planner! With the encouragement and help of some of my friends I founded the event company InCognito Experience in Dominica in 2017, changing the entertainment landscape one fete at a time! We throw an array of events (when outside is open) from Mimosa inclusive day parties to Silent Headphone glow parties at the club! I’ve always enjoyed the hustle and bustle of event planning and I always feel extremely rewarded watching our patrons enjoy themselves.
Last but not least there is youtube! My GabxCaroline started off as a hobby. I enjoy creating, filming, and editing and my platform has grown and I’ve curated my own little community on my side of the internet. I am happy to have genuine people and interactions on my channel and hope to only grow from there. I hope to inspire people to push themselves, be all they can be, travel, work, enjoy life and be balanced.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my best friends was visiting Dominica I’d have a lovely itinerary awaiting them!
We could definitely take a drive to the North coast and go beach hopping from Purple Turtle Beach in Portsmouth, Bell Hall, and end off at Toucarie beach! At Toucarie we could definitely need to stop for gourmet lobster at Keepin’ it real restaurant! One of my favourite restaurants in Dominica. Of course, you can’t go to Keepin it real without taking a local bush rum shot!
On other days, we can be bad and boujie and spend the day at Kempinski Resort and Spa in Portsmouth. Have a luxurious pool day, and watch the sunset, and then a 3-course meal at one of their restaurants! If we’re really feeling extra we could even book a room and stay the night! (Id recommend a swim-up pool room!)
Now you couldn’t come to the ‘Nature Island’ without getting in touch with nature. One another day we could chase some waterfalls! Start off with the Emerald Pool, head over to Jacko’s waterfall, and then end off at Trafalgar falls. Brace yourself for beauty!
After we’ve done the North and the middle of the island, so now a trip to the south is due! One of my favourite points on the island is Scott’s head which we would be sure to visit! This tombolo overlooks where the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet, and on a very clear day, you may even see Martinique !
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely would like to shout out my cousins! When they see this they will know themselves. I’ve been blessed to have a group of cousins who feel more like my siblings (that group also includes my little brother) who motivate me when it comes to youtube. We fully support each other in our endeavors. They are always the first to view my vlogs and give me feed back, guide me with content suggestions, share my videos and hype me up!! I love them, and they have supported me from the first day I mentioned wanting to start a channel and the energy is the same over a year later. Love you my “Sev-Rockers”.
