We had the good fortune of connecting with GERALUZ and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi GERALUZ, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting out my own business happened organically. I was making art because that is my calling in life, my artwork became in more demand by companies and organizations. That alone led me to take a more serious business approach to my artistic practice. It was definitely something new, and a challenge as a creative interested mainly in making art. I worked on it like a new skill, and now it is part of my process as an artist.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel I am an agent for mother earth. She speaks through my conscious elements and intentions in my artwork. In the beginning I made art to fulfill my creative spirit. Today I made art with purpose and intention to heal others, and create consciousness about the earth. My path as an artist started from an early age as a creative child, then morphed into becoming a fine artist. I have an MFA as a conceptual artist, and today I create public art. I created my own rules, and became a professional by following my heart and love in life. I fell in love with street art, and a muralist. I fell in love with the idea that art can be for everyone, not just inside a museum or a gallery. This possibility to reach the public in positive ways inspired me to create public art. I learned the craft from my partner WERC and today I run a successful creative business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I think of Miami, I think of South Beach, fresh coconut, good food. Next on my mind is Art Basel and Wynwood. As an artist the art calls me and inspired me to explore the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partner WERC deserves recognition for guiding me in the artistic & business aspect of my process. His many teachings and examples has led me to be a fulfilled professional artist.
