We had the good fortune of connecting with Gracie Ruiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gracie, what’s your definition for success?
This question always seems to arise when you’re making decisions on what you should do with the rest of your life. But that’s just it. Success isn’t measured by the amount of money or connections you have. It’s measured in happiness and knowledge and the knowledge gained. I believe that being happy in what you do and sharing that happiness and knowledge with others is succession at life itself.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a photographer, filmmaker, writer, and business entrepreneur. I really took a stand on my artistic career when I quit my 9-5 job as a paralegal several years ago and begin to work in the film world. I had the honor of interning for two major films with Univision. I’ve also had the honor of being a producer on several YouTube short films. As a writer, I’ve been reading since I could remember. My favorite books would be turned into screenplays in a matter of weeks just because, I couldn’t believe that this amazing book hasn’t made it to the big screen. Of course, I’ve always been shy about sending my writing to the big names but hopefully in the near future some of my books and scripts will be produced. Being a photographer comes in hand with filmmaking for me. I love how I can loose myself in creativity in every still. From the perfect lighting, to the shiniest of red glitter to the most abstract angles, photography really allows you to capture beauty in seconds. The biggest challenges of continuing to follow ones dreams are to never forget why you’re there in the first place. If it feels like work then you’re not enjoying it. Passion comes from within and so it should feel as easy as breathing. Don’t look focus on your goals. Your happiness comes before all.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Miami. I always say Miami is not just a city in Florida but a different country all in itself. The fact that within a couple blocks you can have empanadas, soul food, and one of the best dumplings you’ll ever have in your life is truly a beautiful thing. I would definitely take anyone that visits Miami to view the night scenery. Even though the buildings are man made and the lights comes from these tall concrete buildings, the awe of the night life and atmosphere in Miami really takes your breath away. From the best drag queen dancing to the best gelato ice cream you’ll ever have. Can never go wrong with croquetas and a cafecito!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Personally and at this point in my career I would like to thank my husband. He has always been by my side and has fueled the fire with my crazy ideas. Continuing with my friends. I’ve had the pleasure to work with these creative and amazing individuals and I’m very blessed to be able to call all my muses, friends. We continue to grow together and individually , artistically. Being creative with people who don’t loose themselves in competition but rather encourage and support you is really a blessing. Lastly, I would like to thank our audience. The feedback a criticism allows me to grow as a creator.
