We had the good fortune of connecting with Guimar Urbina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Guimar, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am proud to be an independent woman, entrepreneur and owner of 2 companies in the same industry. Many know me as the designer, but I am also the creator of The Wallpaper Company, with 4 stores in Florida, 1 showroom in High Point, North Carolina, my collections are available in the United States, South America and the Caribbean.
How did you get where you are today? I got to where I am with a lot of perseverance, I am one of those persons who has a diary in her portfolio, and I write my projections for the year and divide them by quarter. Life is giving me signs and guides. I want them to know that if you are persistent and want to have your own company, you have to study, it is important to have a university degree, it is true that at university you do not learn everything, but they give you a base, the rest is up to you, as far as you want arrive, you are only the one who limits yourself in life. It is important to learn other languages and other cultures, to open yourself up to getting more clients. I speak Spanish, English and Portuguese.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow .. I owe it to my mother that she has always supported me in my desires: first to be a model, then to let me study in another country, to let me dream and study fashion, and then to support me to continue studying and want to be a interior designer. I remember when I told her that I wanted to go back to university to study interior design, my older brother was the first to refuse, since they always supported me and thought it was a whim, and my mother trusted me and supported me as always. I remember as if it were yesterday on my graduation day, I dedicated it to her, I cried just thinking about how far I had come and that my career as a professional began at that moment. My mother is a great example for me, she taught me that ethics and professionalism is the most important thing for your clients to trust you, my mother is a lawyer so she has always thought me that you have to read the small letters and always do good to others.
