We had the good fortune of connecting with Ilo Luyando and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ilo, what do you want people to remember about you?
I would like to carry the flavours of my country (Venezuela) to the mainstream public, so they can share the same love for them as I do. And to always remember: there’s always time for something sweet in your life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For me, it all began as a hobby that kept growing and growing until it became my job today. In fact, a lot of people are surprised when I tell them I actually have a Dentistry Degree. Following your dreams is never easy, and being a one-person band has its stressful days, but looking back I realize that I have been incredibly good at being at the right place at the right time, and being prepared to embrace opportunity when it presents itself. In my opinion, success is often very wrongfully attributed to ‘talent’, when it is usually 100% dedication. I’d like the world to know I am completely self-taught in my craft and have never taken a baking class, in my country we have a saying that goes “querer es poder”, which means that if you want something hard enough, you will find the means to achieve it. If you’re passionate about it – you’ll be happy! And if you’re happy, no one can ever tell you you’re not successful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came over, I’d want them to feel at home. I have a soft spot for Mediterranean food, so I’d love to take her to my favorite restaurant in my neighborhood, “El Arabito Grill”. One thing is for sure, the dessert will be homemade!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to the wonderful friends and business partners I have made in this journey: @caramelosdesign de Oly Garcia @loveofartbynk de Niurka Quintero @habiaunavezunafoto_ de Patricia Graneros  and many others.  But the biggest recognition I want to give to my family, for always supporting me.
