We had the good fortune of connecting with Irma Martínez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Irma, what do you want people to remember about you?
I hope to teach people that it doesn’t matter how successful you get in life, you have to continue to be true to yourself, be humble, and share your knowledge and experiences with others. It’s important to help them on their journey. I would like people to remember me as a mentor. Someone who after many years in the fashion industry, chose to teach, share her knowledge with the new generation to make it easier on them. I choose to share everything I know with passion and love because there is no need to keep those lessons to myself. Aside from my business, I hope to be remembered as a great mother, wife, sister, and sincere human being who made a difference, was approachable and friendly.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
After 25 plus years in the fashion industry, I have grown to realize the importance of evolution in one’s career. It was definitely not easy in the beginning, coming from Colombia and not speaking a word of English, I had to find my way through hard work! I overcame the challenges by always keeping a positive outlook. “No” was never an option. No matter what was presented to me, I knew that I had to keep going and that I had to have a good attitude to go along with it. That mentality has saved me many times. It’s what has helped me build the career from Stylist to CEO of my own company, one that is still standing strong today. I’ve learned to never give up, be kind, and always give my best. I would like for the world to know that no matter where you come from or what others say about you, you are the only person that can get in your own way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For a week long trip in Miami I recommend the following: – Breakfast: Zak The Baker – Nice Coffee Break: Dior Pop-up Café – Lunch: Mandolin – Dinner: KYU or Swan – Drinks: Joja Beach (for a pretty sunset and drinks) – Vintage Finds: The House of Findings – Local Artists: Pachamama Bohemian, Gontovnik, Boho Hunter Boutique, Bossa Concept – Mall: Brickell City Center – To walk around: Wynood Walls, Miami Design District

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this to my husband and my kids who have been the most supportive throughout my entire career. It has always been important to me to keep them top of mind in everything I have done in my career.
