We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabel Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isabel, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is being very authentic and unapologetically me. All while being professional, of course. I started to take photography seriously in 2016, and the first thing I did was make an Instagram and website for my work to be displayed for future clients, friends, and family. I started to doubt my work and compare myself to others and it made me start to draw away from my craft because it messed with my confidence a lot. I quickly realized that I needed to focus on myself and my work, to stop comparing my work to others because every photographer has a different style, and just because mine is different doesn’t mean it isn’t good. Once I started to create what I thought was ‘good’ art, I created my unique style of work which helped me get more paid gigs and build my clientele.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a freelance photographer and I think what sets me apart from other photographers is my style of editing.

I’m excited to see where my work takes me in the next few years. I’ve been able to work and meet with a lot of amazing creatives also people who have helped me so much. As far as what I’m most proud of, I’d have to say I’m proud of my drive.

I’m usually a very shy and reserved person and with my profession I am constantly meeting new people so I’ve had to get out of my comfort zone and network to make connections. It’s helped me get to where I am today, but it definitely was not easy. I feel like with social media, theres so many photographers in the world so you have to really promote yourself constantly and just hope to reach the audience you’re wanting to.

I’ve learned that you can not take things personally. Which has been hard but sometimes in the creative world, you encounter situations where you have to stay professional and be the bigger person. Focusing on yourself and being your own competition will always be the best thing you can do for yourself.

Some fun facts about me: I am 22 year old mom to twin girls. They recently turned one in January and they are my everything. Ever since I gave birth to them, I’ve been pushing myself to create my best work so that my work can take me far to give them the best life I can give them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d probably take them to some thrift stores like Nearly new or Fleur de Flea. To eat I’d take them to my favorite Mexican spot, La Rosita or my favorite Indian place, Kashmir.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Desmond. He’s my muse and one of my biggest supporters.
