We had the good fortune of connecting with J.Odell Also know as Jamie Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi J.Odell, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk are key elements to growth. Every successful person I have met or aligned with take risk. I used to look at risk and failure like it would be the end of the world but truly they are opportunities to learn and/or grow.

I remember when I contemplated starting my first business. I depended on its success financially to pay my bills at bare minimum. Therefore, the option was to either believe in myself or get a 9 to 5 again. The risk was if I believed in myself enough and gave this business my all (physically/financially) would I be successful?

Turned out that I took the risk of believing in myself and the business failed. What I gained from taking that risk was an experience of a lifetime, which was every lesson I needed to start my next business venture.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Looking back and seeing the growth of how far I have developed is no surprise because I’ve always had the mindset to achieve against all odds. What I am most proud of is actually witnessing the development everyday. Of course there’s ups and downs just like any business. There’s also days where you don’t understand why things may happen the way they happen. The best part about it all comes from experience of the process. Knowing you can’t give up everyday and knowing you have to find ways get better is the most exciting aspect for me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For any of my friends that come to Miami, I’d first explain to them that as a local we no longer go to South Beach, but here are some other options:

•Wynwood is great for food and drinks during the daytime.
•Brunch Choice (Victory bar and lounge)
•Looking for good food (Komodo, Chotto Matta, Odell’s Barbecue)
•The beach is an everyday must with a cooler full of cold ones.

I have the most fun when I haven’t went out in a while. I feel like a tourist most of the time which keeps Miami exciting for me. Every time I go out they’ve put up a new building. 😭

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My list of people that have supported me on my journey is truly a blessing.

It all started with God and my parents. Without them, I wouldn’t exist so thank you for the opportunity to be apart of this world.

I just wanted to say thank you to every person that have and is currently supported my business whether you hired me or referred me to someone. I’m truly appreciative because I couldn’t have made it to this step in my journey without your belief and contribution.

I would like to thank my mentors for always being honest keeping me focused and on track to my higher purpose. I also would like to thank my team for their dedication, contributions, and belief in our processes to building a sustainable life/business everyday. Truly throughout this journey and experience, it’s substantial to understand that to get to the next level, we can’t do it alone.
