We had the good fortune of connecting with J.P. DiMisa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi J.P., what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
One of the most important things I’ve tried to instill in my children is the importance of manners, respect, and how you treat other people. To me, manners are one of the few things in life that anyone can have, regardless of background, talent, intelligence, appearance, or success. You don’t have to be a gifted athlete, naturally academic, musically talented, tall, short, rich, or privileged. Anyone can choose to carry themselves with kindness, respect, humility, and consideration for others.

I believe good manners take people a very long way in life. They shape relationships, opportunities, first impressions, and ultimately character. More importantly, they stay with you for your entire life — not just as a child, but all the way through adulthood and into your final years. It’s a timeless quality that never stops mattering.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve spent more than two decades building and developing custom homes in South Florida, and one of the biggest things that sets me apart is that I came up through the real-world side of construction, not just the office side of it. I’m deeply involved in the process from the ground up — problem solving in the field, coordinating complex details, managing personalities, budgets, municipalities, inspections, architects, engineers, designers, and ultimately delivering a one-of-one home for a client. These are not production houses. Every project is essentially a prototype.

What I’m most proud of is the trust clients place in me during one of the largest and most personal investments of their lives. Building a truly custom home is complicated, emotional, and demanding. My role is not just to build the house, but to navigate the entire process responsibly and professionally while protecting the integrity of the project.

It absolutely was not easy getting to this point. Construction is a tough business with constant pressure, high stakes, long hours, and endless moving parts. There were years of learning through mistakes, difficult projects, financial stress, tough personalities, and situations where I simply had to outwork problems and stay steady under pressure. Over time, I learned that consistency, communication, accountability, and calm decision-making matter more than ego.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that details matter, but so do people. You can be technically talented, but if you cannot manage relationships, expectations, and communication, projects fall apart. I’ve also learned that reputation compounds slowly over years and can be damaged quickly, so protecting your name and your standards is critical.

I want people to understand that behind every finished luxury home is an enormous amount of coordination, responsibility, problem solving, and persistence. My brand is built around creating truly custom homes with a high level of care, involvement, and attention to detail — while maintaining professionalism, transparency, and respect for the process from start to finish. I treat my clients the same way I want to be treated by others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was coming here for a week, I’d probably show them the side of this area that tourists never really see. Not the loudest, crowded version of all of it — the more refined, and layered version of where we call home.

We’d spend time around Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Palm Beach, and probably Miami (where I went to college).

I would grab my golf cart (street legal) and cruise through some of the older neighborhoods and coastal streets where you can really feel the architecture and landscaping that make South Florida unique. I’d probably take them through some my active custom home jobs that are underway too, because honestly seeing how these homes are designed, engineered, and built here is part of the feel & culture of things.

I’d definitely take them out on the water. Probably a boat day through the Intracoastal and out toward the ocean. Seeing the waterfront estates, yachts, And also float down the many canals where a bunch of new, dockside homes are, Because from the water, you get a completely different perspective of the area.

At some point we’d head down to Miami — probably Design District, Brickell, or Coral Gables depending on what they’re into. Miami has an energy that’s hard to explain unless you spend real time there. There’s a mix of ambition, nightlife, fashion, architecture, music, money, creativity, and chaos all colliding together. It’s one of the few cities in America that genuinely feels international.

I’d also make sure they saw Palm Beach because it’s a completely different atmosphere. More understated, old-school, and polished. There’s a quiet sophistication there that I think is reallly interesting.

As far as people go, South Florida attracts some very driven personalities. Entrepreneurs, athletes, real estate developers, people who’ve sold companies for tons, creatives, finance people, tech moguls, and entertainers — everybody seems to come here chasing something. Sometimes that creates noise, but it also creates a pretty exciting environment to be in.

The best part of the area to me is that you can create almost any lifestyle you want here. You can have fishing, boating, business, golf, fine-arts, beach life, luxury galore, family life, religious focus, or total privacy — often all within the same day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother. As painful (sometimes) as it is as a 49 year old man to still get told what I should do, her guidance helped shape me into who I am like no other. And I’m glad she did…and still does! It’s probably some of the best advice I could get.
