We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Ditkofsky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Finding a way to balance your personal life and business is not always easy but I have done my best to find a system that works for me. When I come home, the first thing I do is turn off all my email notifications on my phone. I rarely answers phone calls or any other forms of communication that are work-related when I am home. That’s out of respect to the person calling, and it’s setting boundaries for myself. Another tool that works for me is to plan everything in my life, including family and friends. I schedule almost everything including exercise, phone calls with friends and loved ones, even spending time with my family. I make sure that I find the time somewhere in my day. And while family is very important, I also take time for myself to live an overall healthy life. I like to read, listen to podcasts, and take time for personal development and self-care. Untimely I feel that while there are sacrifices, we make as business owners, you most likely won’t be lying on your deathbed and wish you had spent more time on that report or went to that extra meeting.

What should our readers know about your business?
I moved down to South Florida in 2012 and I purchased a National Brand sign franchise. I did quite well with it and bought another. It became evident quickly that the franchisor was not interested in me being able to scale the businesses. So, I started selling them off one at a time. In 2017, I purchased Channel Letter USA. Coincidentally enough, that is where I actually used to be a customer. What I love about Channel Letter USA is that it is focused on building relationships and developing recurring revenues. What was difficult for me to get used to was relying on other companies to sell my product. I also saw that there was a gap in the market when it came to installations. I figured if I was building the signs, I may as well finish the job and control the process from start to finish. I had been looking for trucks when I was presented with an opportunity to acquire McNeill Signs. The fit was seamless, and the rest is history.

Our goal is to always have the client feel 1000% satisfied by the time the job is complete. For this very reason, we want to control their entire customer journey. From the moment they call, we aim to be as responsive as possible. Our design team works hard to bring their exact vision to life. We facilitate the permitting process, which we know can be stressful for the customer. We manufacture the signage expertly and then install with precision from our talented team. No detail is spared and we give a white-collar service to a blue-collar industry. This truly allows us to stand apart from our competition.

Our clients include Ikea, Amazon, Citrix, Honda, Coffee Butler Amphitheatre, Toyota, UPS, and many other top national and local companies and Sports Franchises that trust us with their brands.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places to visit, as it holds a lot of nostalgia for me, is Deerfield Beach. This is the beach my grandparents used to take me when I was growing up on my visits from Canada. It still holds a special place in my heart and I recommend to everyone with families that mention they are visiting the area to visit Deerfield Beach on their trip. Chops Boca dishes up some of the best steaks in the area and, debatably, the whole state. Eau Hotel Palm Beach Resort and Spa is a great place to rest your head after a day at the beach and a full belly. The classy location, coupled with posh rooms and a superb spa, really provide a nice detox. It earns bonus points because I also got married there! For breakfast, head to Way Beyond Bagels for some of the freshest New York style bagels around. I recommend the Nova Lox, but you can’t go wrong with any option from their delicious menu. For some local charm tucked away from the tourists, head over to the neighborhood known as Brickell. While there are towering finance buildings, there’s also an abundance of good eats, art, and boutiques. Papa’s Raw Bar should be your spot to eat if you are a seafood lover. If not, there’s also a great burger joint called Charm City Burger; adeptly named.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Fortunately, I have always had the support of my friends and family. Each person in my life has contributed to my success in unique ways. However, the one person who stands out is my stepfather, Leonard Sheiner. His belief in me has never faltered, even in moments where I may not have deserved his trust. He has guided me towards every opportunity imaginable and trusted my process, while also being there to support me along the way. Without him, I would not be the man that I am today, personally or professionally.
