We had the good fortune of connecting with JC Bakesmith’s and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JC Bakesmith’s, what do you attribute your success to?
What really is the definition of success? Because ours might not be the same as someone else’s, but we view ourselves as successful because we truly love what we do. We put our whole hearts into our baked goods, and we love working with eachother, so that alone feels like success to us! So to us, the most important factor to our success is not only having a love for baking, but having an even greater love of making other people happy, and we just happen to do so with cupcakes!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Anyone who has started a business on their own will tell you it’s not easy, but for us it has definitely been much easier having a partner to lean on. Not only are we able to share the workload and creativity, but we also share our problems, like calling one another when our cheesecake won’t set up, or our batch of cookies just landed on the floor. What sets us apart from others is that while even though super intricate cakes and cookies are all the rave today, we focus on creating a nostalgic classically sweet treat that your grandmother would have made. But even more important to us than the baking, is our faith in God. If you notice in our logo, you can see the Bible verse “1 Corinthians 10:31” which is “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” And we feel that describes why we do what we do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are based in Flagler County, FL, so if you’re ever in our neck of the woods, here are some of our favorite places. Flagler beach in general is a must. There are plenty of great restaurants to check out, including swillerbees for breakfast and turtle shack for dinner. And of course check out the the gorgeous beach. A little further inland in town, definitely check out Dominic’s deli for the best sandwiches in the county. You could also check out Washington Oaks Garden, where they have a beautiful formal garden, along with a couple of walking trails. And right up the road from there is the Baliker gallery, where you can find some incredible drift wood art. And if you’re in to historic sites, there’s a very cool historic dig at Bing’s landing, where you could also launch your boat, and have lunch at Captain’s BBQ.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We both had strong mentors while growing up that really sparked our love of baking. And while tossing around the idea of turning our love into a business, both of our husbands (Greg and Mark) were extremely supportive!
