We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Cortiella and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting Cortiella Photography came from a deep desire to create something that felt truly personal and meaningful—not just for me, but for the people I serve. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling and connection, and photography became the way I could offer that to others. I wanted to create a space where couples could feel fully themselves in front of the camera and know their story would be captured with honesty, emotion, and care.

I also realized that working for others often meant compromising on how I wanted to serve people—with intention, with heart, and with a more elevated, yet down-to-earth experience. Launching my own business gave me the freedom to build that kind of brand—where relationships matter just as much as the final images. Cortiella Photography was born out of that vision: to give couples a seamless and unforgettable experience while capturing their day, naturally.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Photography, for me, is more than just capturing beautiful images—it’s about preserving emotion, connection, and presence. What sets my work apart is the way I approach each session—with intention, care, and a deep respect for the story being told. I don’t just take photos—I hold space for real moments to unfold, and I document them in a way that feels natural, timeless, and deeply personal.

I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me. Whether it’s a wedding day, an intimate elopement, or a family session, I’m invited into people’s most sacred moments—and that’s not something I take lightly. I’m also incredibly proud of the Magic Hour Foundation, which I founded in honor of my late dog, Zoey. Through it, we offer free photo sessions to those impacted by cancer. It’s been one of the most meaningful and healing parts of my journey—turning grief into light.

Getting to where I am today professionally wasn’t easy. I’ve faced burnout, self-doubt, comparison, and the constant pressure of staying creative in a fast-paced industry. But I kept showing up—with heart, with resilience, and with a strong belief that purpose will always lead the way. I’ve learned to honor seasons of growth and rest equally, to trust my gut, and to lead with empathy.

What I want the world to know about Cortiella Photography is that this isn’t just a business—it’s a love letter to the moments that matter most. My brand is rooted in storytelling, service, and soul. Every photo is a piece of someone’s legacy, and I’m honored to be the one who gets to preserve it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting South Florida for a week, I’d want them to experience the perfect mix of vibrant culture, laid-back beauty, and a little unexpected magic. Here’s how we’d spend our time:

Day 1: We’d ease into the trip with brunch at Greenstreet Café in Coconut Grove—great people-watching and even better pancakes. Then we’d stroll through the Grove, check out local shops, and wrap up the evening with cocktails and sunset views at Monty’s on the marina.

Day 2: We’d head to Wynwood to see the murals and pop into local art galleries. Coffee at Panther Coffee, lunch at The Salty Donut, and dinner at KYU—because no trip here is complete without it. If we’re feeling fun, we’d check out a speakeasy like Dante’s HiFi or Spanglish.

Day 3: Beach day! We’d hit up South Pointe Park for a sunrise walk and a more chill beach experience. Later, lunch at Joia Beach, followed by a slow sunset cruise from Bayside Marketplace.

Day 4: We’d drive down to the Florida Keys for a day trip—maybe stop in Islamorada for lunch at Morada Bay, then relax by the water. If we’re staying overnight, we’d end the day with dinner at Pierre’s.

Day 5: Time for a nature break—exploring the Everglades with an airboat tour and then grabbing dinner at a local gem like Chef Adrianne’s.

Day 6: A little luxury! We’d check into The Faena Hotel for spa time and poolside lounging. That night, we’d go all out—dinner at Casa Tua followed by live music or a show at The Fillmore.

Day 7: We’d wrap the trip with a relaxed morning at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, then one last café con leche in Little Havana with a stop at Ball & Chain to soak up some music and culture before saying goodbye.

What I love most about South Florida is how diverse and dynamic it is. There’s a rhythm here—whether you’re chasing sunrises, dancing under the stars, or just savoring good food with great company—it always feels like home and vacation all at once.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people and moments that have shaped my journey, but if I had to dedicate this shoutout, I’d start with my late dog, Zoey. She was my heart, and her cancer journey changed my life. That love and loss inspired the creation of the Magic Hour Foundation, which offers free photo sessions to those impacted by cancer. It’s my way of turning grief into purpose and honoring the resilience and beauty found in every chapter of life.

I’m deeply grateful to God for blessing me with the faith, strength, and guidance to keep going, even when the path wasn’t always clear. Every opportunity, connection, and moment of growth—I carry immense gratitude for it all.

To my husband, thank you for being my constant source of love and encouragement. To my clients, your trust means everything—you’re the reason I get to do what I love. And to the incredible community of volunteer photographers at the Magic Hour Foundation, your heart and dedication move me beyond words.

I also want to thank Tony Robbins—his teachings helped shift my mindset and reminded me to lead with gratitude, purpose, and service.

And I have to give love to the creative community and mentors who shared their wisdom and opened doors. None of this would be possible without the collective kindness and encouragement I’ve received along the way.
