We had the good fortune of connecting with Joan Godoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joan, what do you attribute your success to?
TRUST. A simple word that encapsulates so much and it is only built through consistency and time. I choose to trust everyone I know since day 1, which tends to be reciprocated. Because I trust people of all places, colors, and likes, I give everything of me and then they trust me with their true selves, their emotions, their problems, their dreams, and trust we can come up with solutions and plans together. Because they trust me, they dare to step out of their comfort zones and trust others outside of their bubbles too.

Trust is also the success of Radical Partners. We build and strengthen relationships for a living so that we can build and strengthen social movements that matter. Leaders, funders, and organizations trust us with their problems and their dreams, and trust us enough to come up with solutions and plans that we can implement together.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Radical Partners is a Miami-based social impact accelerator. We invest in leaders, engage locals, co-design solutions, and build coalitions to strengthen communities. We are committed to accelerating change and good in this world through effective and efficient processes.

The news don’t make it easy. Daily injustices make it hard. An individualistic mindset make it challenging and after a year of crisis, funding long-term initiatives keep us moving. In the midst of it all, staying grounded in our mission moves us forward as we lead with impact in our minds and not with ego in our hearts.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would tour them around Miami-Dade! We could start with brunch somewhere in Brickell, go explore graffiti in Wynwood, drive around Coral Gables and Coconut Grove to checkout giant houses, have lunch at Palacio de los Jugos, watch the sunset in Miami Beach, and end the day dancing bachata in Allapattah.

Each of those places and the people they attract are definitely interesting and fun. The best part is the diversity and the differences though. The best part is thinking you know certain truths and challenging those realities a few hours later.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Rebecca Fishman Lipsey deserves a shoutout in my life story! She was able to see in me what I wasn’t able to. She saw a kind and successful successor that could not only carry on her vision but one that could transform and scale it.

Four other world leaders deserve a shoutout too (who I hope to meet someday): Trevor Noah, Brené Brown, Simon Sinek, and Priya Parker. Just like me, with diverse backgrounds, interesting life stories, and lots of travel in their pockets, they remind me that it is possible to be different, interesting, savvy, authentic, kind, joyful, and successful at the same time while trying to change the world.
