We had the good fortune of connecting with Joanna (Joey) Wurmann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joanna (Joey), is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Coming from a background in world politics in my home country, Chile, I’ve embarked on a new adventure in Miami’s vibrant lifestyle scene. As the main editor of Mujer y Punto, a Latin American online magazine focusing on women-related subjects and Miami’s lifestyle, I’ve transitioned into a lifestyle explorer and content creator.

My Instagram, ‘Miami by Joey,’ is dedicated to showcasing the Miami lifestyle through the eyes of empty nesters over 45. Through captivating reels, I aim to capture the essence of this unique demographic’s experiences in Miami. In addition to content creation, I also manage our community and develop marketing programs to promote our brand to this specific audience.

One thing about this industry that outsiders might not realize is that it’s far more complex than it appears. English isn’t my first language, which presents unique challenges in content creation and communication within the Miami influencer world. Beyond language, creating engaging content, building a network in a competitive scene, and maintaining my journalistic integrity while embracing the Miami lifestyle have all been integral to this journey.

So, while it may seem like a seamless transition, there’s a world of effort and adaptability behind the scenes that outsiders may not be aware of

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey from Chile to Miami has been a vibrant transition, shaping my career as a journalist and editor-in-chief at Mujer y Punto, a prominent Latin-American magazine. Here, I delve into an array of topics relevant to women’s issues, blending them seamlessly with the multifaceted lifestyle of Miami. My role involves crafting stories that resonate with our readers, offering them insights into diverse experiences and perspectives.

While Mujer y Punto allows me to explore a wide range of subjects, my personal venture on Instagram, ‘Miami by Joey,’ lets me connect with a specific audience. Here, I focus on the 45+ demographic in Miami, showcasing their unique lifestyle through engaging content. This platform is where I particularly enjoy conducting interviews with Miami’s culinary and cultural figures. These conversations are not just interviews; they’re stories that highlight the richness and diversity of Miami’s social fabric, offering my followers an intimate look at the city’s dynamic pulse. This account allows me to explore and showcase a side of Miami that’s rich in experiences and often underrepresented in mainstream media.

In my writing, whether for the magazine or on social media, I maintain a conversational and approachable tone, akin to chatting with a friend. This style has been instrumental in creating a bond with my audience, making the content relatable and enjoyable.

As I look to the future, my ambition is to extend my reach beyond Miami. I aim to contribute to international media outlets, sharing the unique blend of cultural insights and lifestyle expertise I’ve developed. This goal motivates me to continue evolving in my career, seeking new ways to tell stories that resonate with audiences across the globe.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Asking me to pick my favorite spots in SOFLO is tough. I truly appreciate all the different neighborhoods within this region, each with their unique story, culture, and people – except for South Beach at night, which isn’t really my scene. The diversity and vibrancy of SOFLO’s neighborhoods are what captivates me most. From the artistic flair of Wynwood to the historical richness of Little Havana, and from the tranquil beauty of Fort Lauderdale’s beaches to the lively pulse of downtown Miami, every area has its charm. Given how everyone has their unique likes and dislikes, I always say that exploring SOFLO should be as unique as you are. It’s really about seeking out those special nooks and crannies that speak to your heart and match your own style. Whether it’s a cozy cafe corner, a bustling street art scene, or a quiet beach spot, it’s those personal discoveries that make your SOFLO adventure truly unforgettable.
For those curious about my personal favorites in SOFLO, I invite you to check out my Instagram, ‘Miami by Joey.’ There, I share the spots and experiences that showcase the essence of this vibrant and diverse region.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely, your dedication to these individuals is heartfelt and meaningful. Here’s your shoutout with the emphasis on the people who have believed in and supported you throughout your journey:

“I want to dedicate this shoutout to all the incredible individuals who have believed in and supported me throughout my journey of moving to Miami and transitioning into the world of lifestyle content creation.

First and foremost, I’d like to thank my son, Paul. He’s been there through all the tears and moments of sadness that come with such a significant life change. But he’s also shared in the joyous moments. His unwavering support and understanding have meant the world to me, and our shared experiences have made our bond even stronger.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to my group of PR friends, who have not only become my colleagues but also my friends. They’ve believed in my work and have been instrumental in helping me discover new and exciting stories to share.

Last but certainly not least, I want to express my deep gratitude to my friends in Miami. They’ve been my rock, providing endless and unconditional support. In a new place, they’ve become my family, and I couldn’t have embarked on this journey without their love and encouragement. (You know who you are)

This shoutout is for all of you, who have played an essential role in my life and success in Miami. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
