We had the good fortune of connecting with Tango Leadaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tango, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision Ive ever had to make was the decision to actually go and pursue my dreams. That decision is so hard and I believe it is one that everyone faces. To risk it all and face the unknown or to stay in the familiar place that we are comfortable with.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Dancehall instructor/choreographer currently based in Los Angeles. Prior to moving to LA I danced for years in the underground Dancehall scene in South Florida. I relocated to California to start a career and to spread authentic Dancehall culture into the industry. Some of my accomplishments have been choreographing Omarion’s “Distance” and “W4W” and featuring in performance/music videos for Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Black Eyed Peas, and Gwen Stefani, to name a few. Whats interesting about my story is that my professional career as a dancer started at the age of 33. Now if you went around telling people that you wanted to start dancing professionally at 33 they would think you were crazy. And most people did. I was always going to clubs and dancing throughout my life but it was more of just a fun type of thing. I never thought of it as a career at first. At that time I didn’t really know what i wanted to do but I did know that I loved to dance and to create. Many people told me that i was too old to make dancing a career. That I should find something else to do because you have to be young to be a professional in dance. In 2015 I made the decision to move to LA to dance. It was a tough decision but it was the best decision I ever made. Ive learned through this experience that its important that you bet on yourself. Its all about believing in yourself because if I would have listened to those people I would not have all these wonderful experiences and be traveling the world getting paid to do what I love.
I feel like I represent for those people who were told that they can’t do something. Those that were told that they are too fat or too short or too dark or too old to follow their dreams. Whatever reason they were told they shouldn’t do it I say is a good reason why they should do it. Prove to those people that you are in control of your destiny.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Where would i take my friend if they were visiting my area is a good question and Im embarrassed to say that i really don’t know lol. I have been in LA for 6 years and unfortunately still have not gone out and actually explored everything LA has to offer. So if my friend was visiting we would be exploring and figuring out things together because everything would most likely be new to me as well. One thing I do know about and would introduce them to is the caribbean parties that take place in LA. On Sundays there is fun Caribbean party call Fyah Sundays that plays all the latest Dancehall, Soca and Afrobeats music. All the dancers come out and enjoy themselves and its always a good time. Other than that everyone likes the beach so Venice beach is a place i would take them. And lastly Hollywood walk of fame so they can see the stars on the ground. You know the usually touristy stuff.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely want to give a shoutout to the people that are dream supporters. Those people that encourage friends and family to pursue their dreams and be great in their endeavors. Shout out to my family and friends because they believed in me many times when I myself didnt even have belief. They helped keep me focus. All dream supporters out there keep supporting, keep encouraging, and keep giving out that positive energy!
