Meet Johnnie U | Mountain Bike Podcaster and Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Johnnie U and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Johnnie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my Youtube Podcast Channel “MTB Q&A” to help connect the Mountain Biking community. There are so many MTB content creators out there and it is a great way for those that love mountain biking to get to know all the people they enjoy watching. Plus I love talking! HA!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, I am a Mountain Bike Podcaster. The channel is called MTB Q&A, simple yet gets to the point. This is not my profession but more of a passion project. I got the idea for my podcast in late 2020 during the pandemic. Being an avid mountain biker here in Miami I wasn’t able to ride the trails because all the parks were closed (Social Distancing) so I lived vicariously through Youtube videos of people mountain biking. And then one day it hit me, I wanna interview these creators! In a former life I was an entertainment reporter and have interviewed lots of celebrities like Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Downey Jr. just to drop some names. So with that, I knew I had the ability to hold a conversation, it was getting the people on I feared would be the hard part. Who would want to come a show with ZERO Subscribers?! But it turned out everyone does. People love talking about bikes and riding. And I love getting to know these riders. The stories they have are amazing. I have interviewed people that have done so amazing things all in the name of riding Mountain Bikes! From starting Non-Profit groups that help others. To people that help soldiers with PTSD. To Clothing companies that give back to the riding community and so on! And it is a live podcast, so I have people from all over the world, from Finland and New Zealand, that tune in each show just to learn more about the people that make up this riding community. It is just a fun time! I’m not monetized yet, but getting to connect with the people and this community is why I keep doing it. I have made a lot of good friends doing this and that’s payment enough. Oh and I also do MTB comedy and riding content. I did comedic things in a former life as well. And with that I’ll leave you with my tag line…Go Get Your Bikes Dirty!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well if we’re talking about Mountain Biking, cuz we are, I would take my friends to the Virginia Key Trails! It’s my home away from home. The trail builders there do an amazing job maintaining and building new trails. There’s something for everyone. From beginner to skilled advance riding. I’m a simple man so after we ride I’d take them to Monty’s or The Sandbar to grab a cold one and some tacos! Because its the law after a good ride! And I would take them out on my boat and show them Miami where it should be shown from the water. If I’m not on a bike I’m on my boat!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanna give a Shoutout to my wife for being my biggest supporter! She is always there to lend a helping hand or encourage me to keep on keepin’ on! Love her dearly!
