We had the good fortune of connecting with Jojo Tesini and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jojo, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I think the biggest thing that outsiders of photography are unaware of is cost. Finding a common ground when pricing starting out can be scary because of it. You get that “why is the photographer charging that”. Even used professional gear is in the higher hundreds of dollars. Not including the support gear required. A computer that can handle the editing, memory storage for file backups, and the cost of the editing programs alone. It’s a heavy upfront cost that can yield a high return once you catch on. Keep the love for what you do front and center and the other stuff becomes a lot less daunting.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would still consider myself a novice compared to others in the photo world. I’m self-taught so I’m constantly learning as I go. Being self-taught also means making mistakes is apart of my growing process. Being open to constructive criticism is not easy even for the best of us. I take pride in my ability to work with a wide range of people and my speed of learning on the go. Be patient with urself whenever trying new things. Understand your limits but don’t be afraid to step out of the comfort zone. The world will see my work one day and know it was me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This question is a hard one these days. The world is a new place. 2020 where to begin. We will figure this out and find ways to work, enjoy, and live inside of the new ways of life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is pretty simple to answer. My fiance Atalie, I am extremely self-critical and second guess myself all the time. She has been the one to give me the grounding tap on the shoulder when I felt like I was drifting off. So she deserves more than a little credit in my story.
