We had the good fortune of connecting with Ty Jack and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ty, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
There has been a few times where I wanted to give up on my salon and myself, but then I think of how far I’ve come. How quickly it took me to achieve my goals to get where I currently am, and the happiness, joy and freedom of working for myself. I wouldn’t give up being my own boss for the world.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
If I were to describe myself and my art, the aesthetic I would use is “unicorn.” Unicorn to me means a person that is unique in everything that they do and chooses to live life, freely, colorful and unapologetically. I use this aspect of life on my social media platform (influencer) and within my salon. The journey to becoming this person wasn’t easy at all. It took a lot of reassurance, self esteem building and just training myself to becoming the person I want others to see and respect as well. I was mocked for this at first, but now I am loved. The biggest blessing was learning to love myself in the process. I’m so happy I decided to embrace me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here are some of the fun things/activities I like to do in my area (Ponchatoula/Hammond, Louisiana) For breakfast we would start off with a crawfish omelette from the yellow bird cafe followed by a stroll in the downtown Hammond area. After we can stop for a mid day snack at Gene’s Pralines for some of the best Pecan Candy in Louisiana! Following, we can visit Painting with a Twist in downtown while we sip and paint our troubles away! We could end the night with steak night at J Rucker’s House of Soul! We can also book family photos or a spicy boudoir shoot with Bridget Mae Photography! It would really close the week out beautifully!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my mother, my friends and my growing support system from social media. I never thought that people I haven’t met in real life could be one of my biggest support systems and reason to keep pushing.
