We had the good fortune of connecting with Jorge and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jorge, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for our YouTube channel began with a simple desire: to keep reading to our nephews after a brief stay with us in our tiny New York City apartment. Let me explain!

Due to family circumstances, our nephews came to live with us for a while. One night, my wife — the “StoryTeller” of our channel — offered to read them a bedtime story. They scoffed at the idea, insisting they were too sophisticated and preferred watching movies meant for much older people (aka adults). But with a little convincing, they gave in… and within a minute, they were completely hooked.

The next night, they asked for another story. And just like that, storytime became our nightly ritual.

When they eventually returned home to their parents, they missed those bedtime stories — and we missed telling them. So we had a simple idea: we’d record ourselves reading and upload the videos to YouTube. They loved it — and, unexpectedly, so did many other children.

Soon, we were flooded with comments and emails from parents and educators telling us how much the stories meant to their own families. The outpouring of gratitude was overwhelming. It gave us a deep sense of purpose — we realized we were doing something meaningful, even though it was time-consuming and brought in no income.

What started as a way to share stories with two boys the old-fashioned way has grown into a channel with over 1 million subscribers!

Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve had two careers that have “sandwiched” my professional journey, each contributing essential creative, business, and technical skills that I use every day. For many years, I worked in the internet industry — from digital advertising to web development, design, and management. After my time in corporate America, I transitioned into acting and enjoyed success with roles in major projects like Furious 7, Boardwalk Empire, MacGyver, Charlie’s Angels, as well as dozens of TV commercials. Each of these experiences has equipped me with unique skills that I draw on daily. It’s the combination of technical expertise and creative vision that empowers me to do what I do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We absolutely love Miami and take every opportunity to show it off to visitors. After living in New York and Los Angeles for many years, rediscovering this city has been a joy. We’re especially excited about how Miami’s Latin roots continue to evolve alongside its American culture — the culinary scene, in particular, is incredible.

When friends come to town, we have to take them to the Everglades — it’s such a unique, special experience that never fails to impress. We also do a tour of Calle Ocho: stopping by Cuban shops, grabbing ice cream at Azúcar, checking out Ball & Chain, and sometimes having lunch at the historic Versailles.

We love exploring Bill Baggs State Park in Key Biscayne and showing off the energy of Brickell and places like “Dolores But You Can Call Me Lolita”! Of course, no visit is complete without a trip to South Beach — iconic and always a crowd-pleaser.

When it comes to food, we make sure our guests try a Cuban hamburger la frita (always a hit), chicharrones from La Bodega on Flagler and SW 114th Ave, and dishes from some of our favorite Latin American spots. Madroños is our go-to for Nicaraguan cuisine, and the bandeja paisa from local Colombian restaurants is always delicious.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to express our deepest gratitude to the publishers and authors who have partnered with us and recognized the value of our work as major book influencers in the world of children’s literature. We take great joy in helping bring their stories to our audience. And, of course, we couldn’t do any of this without our incredible legions of fans — the children, parents, and educators who support us and make our community so special.
