Meet Joscar Duque | Triatleta & Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joscar Duque and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joscar, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of JD Team has been community and consistency.
As an athlete, I learned that talent opens doors, but discipline and perseverance keep them open. When we started JD Team, the goal was not only performance but also building a culture where athletes feel supported, motivated, and part of something bigger than themselves.
Every achievement—whether it’s completing an Ironman, running a first 5K, or simply showing up to train—comes from creating an environment where people believe in their dreams and work consistently toward them. Our brand has grown because we’ve stayed true to that vision: dream big, work hard, and do it together.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My professional journey has always been shaped by sports. I was part of the Venezuelan national triathlon team, competing at the highest level until I emigrated to the United States in 2017. Starting over in a new country was not easy — it meant rebuilding my career from zero, learning a new culture, and finding ways to keep my passion for sports alive.
What sets me apart is that I bring both the perspective of an elite athlete and that of a coach who deeply understands the human side of performance. JD Team was born from that vision: to create a community where discipline, passion, and dreams come together.
One of the biggest challenges was turning a personal dream into a sustainable project. There were moments of doubt, financial uncertainty, and the reality of balancing work with training. But every challenge became a lesson — about resilience, consistency, and the power of believing in something bigger than yourself.
Today, what I am most proud of is not just the races I’ve won, but the athletes who have discovered their own strength through JD Team. Our story is proof that success is not only about crossing finish lines, but about building a community where everyone feels capable of chasing their dreams.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit Miami, I’d show them the city through the eyes of a triathlete and a local.
We’d start with a sunrise run and ride in Key Biscayne, which for me is a true paradise for triathletes — a place where the ocean, the views, and the training routes make it unique. Then, we’d go for a good recovery meal that includes something simple but always present in my culture: arepas
During the week, I’d take them to explore Wynwood for art and energy, and we’d hang out in Coconut Grove for its relaxed vibe and good food. Evenings would end with sunsets at South Pointe Park, reminding us why Miami is such a special mix of sport, culture, and lifestyle.
For me, the city is about balance — training hard in the morning, enjoying food and friends during the day, and celebrating life by the ocean in the evening.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest shoutout goes to my wife and partner, Maria Fernanda, who has been by my side in every step of this journey. She believed in me even in the most difficult moments and together we built JD Team from the ground up. Her vision, creativity, and unconditional support have been fundamental to turning a dream into a community.
I also want to dedicate this recognition to our athletes. They are the heartbeat of JD Team — their discipline, passion, and willingness to grow inspire me every single day. Without their energy and trust, none of this would be possible.
Finally, I’m grateful to the mentors and coaches who shaped me as an athlete early on, and to my family, who taught me resilience and hard work. Success is never individual — it’s always a team effort.
