We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Christie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I worked for an advertising agency for a few years and became the “Music Guy” while I was there. When I left I was trying to figure out my next move and a former colleague of mine hit me up and asked me to help him get an Anita Baker track cleared for a Nike Ad. Anita Baker is notoriously difficult to get approval for, but it took me 2-3 days with lots of talks with her management team, the labels execs, and attorneys I finally got the approval. Nike did not want to use the track since it was a bit pricey for them but then I got a friend who is a producer on the project. From that point in 2023 I got the entrepreneur bug.
There are not a lot of black music supervisors, let alone black sups that own their own supervision and production company.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in NY so it depends on the season and my mood.
If it’s this weekend:
Friday:
– grab lunch at Trinicity in South Ozone to get some good Trinidadian food.
– Go to the Museum of Natural History and then hang out in Central Park
– Dinner at Catch Steak
– End off the day watching the Knicks game at a bar
Saturday:
– Breakfast at Jahn’s Diner in Jackson Heights.
– Matinee at a Broadway show (Book of Mormon).
– Go to a wine event my friend hosts every month.
– End the night going up to Washington Heights to hangout
Sunday:
If I’m not tired, spend the day in Brooklyn. Maybe go to Peaches for brunch and go to the botanical gardens.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I attribute my entrepreneurial spirit to a few influential people in my life. My late mother always believed that I would eventually work for myself due to my aversion to working for others.
My close circle of friends has been incredibly supportive. They consistently retweet and repost my work, promote my speaking engagements, and offer encouragement during challenging times. Additionally, they have provided financial assistance when needed, acting as a true community for me.
Lastly, I owe a great deal of gratitude to my girlfriend and mother of my children, Rosa Torres. She was the driving force behind my decision to start my own business. Her unwavering belief in me and her constant reminder that persistence is key have been invaluable.
