Meet Josselyn Guevara | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Josselyn Guevara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josselyn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I love designing and creating and fashion of course has always been my passion. I grew up creating and designing clothes for my dolls and then for myself so I always had this love for design so since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion. I graduated from the Miami International University of Art & Design in 2019 with a degree in Fashion Design and then launched my brand in 2020. I set up a home studio where all the magic happens. Being a fashion designer is a dream come true, even though the fashion industry is not an easy world there is a lot of hard work that you have to do, always reinvent yourself and make a lot of sacrifices so it really requires true passion. And when you are so passionate about something you have to express it and share it with the world. And there is no greater feeling than getting to do what you love every day and I’m so grateful I get to do that and that it’s for me the definition of success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I started my business and launched my brand “Josselyn Guevara” Haute Couture Women’s Evening Wear I knew it was not going to be easy but I was very sure I wanted to take the risk. So, I did it anyway and the most challenging part for me was having to do it all by myself but when you want something so bad you go after it despite all the challenges. Trying to accomplish something big and ambitious is not easy, it takes a lot of effort and dedication to do it, but if you are willing to put in the work is possible. And if there is something I have learned is to fight for what I want, fight for my dreams, believe in myself, and not give up. at the end of the day, it is all up to me to make it happen. Because everything and anything that you set your mind to you can do it if you believe in yourself. I’m very dedicated to my brand and it’s my priority. My brand is all about embracing beautiful, brave, and confident women. Because when you look good it gives you confidence so if you look good you will feel good on the inside too. My designs are unique and one-of-a-kind statements pieces for confident and powerful women that aren’t afraid to express themselves women that want to be sexy and very feminine at the same time. My vision is to dress all body types of women because for me all women are beautiful doesn’t matter the different shapes or sizes and that’s what makes each of us unique. So all my made-to-order collections can be made to measure or you can have your custom-made garment. Also, all the garment pieces are made in-house and the whole purpose is to have less waste and strive to have a minimum of excess stock. Building a business and creating a brand is very hard, to say the least, and not as glamourous as a lot of people might think, a lot of sleepless nights and working hard all the time, but the joy I feel when see the beautiful clients wearing my designs is just priceless.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I personally love the Miami Beach Area. If my friends are in town for a Friday night I would definitely take them for drinks at Jaya at the Setai hotel beautiful place to enjoy your favorite drink with fun energy and an entertaining show. For Saturday a beach day at Faena hotel and following with brunch at their restaurant and for the night I will take them to Baoili for dinner and enjoy great music. For Sunday I will take them to the Wynwood area and explore around, have the delicious donuts at Salty Donut, and later for drinks at No. 3 Social

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family of course has always been my support. I’m very grateful to have a very supportive family they are my everything and I love them very much. I would not be who I’m without them.
