We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Navarro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It’s the classic argument that happens in one’s head, where you think, “Am I going to live for just a paycheck?” No, so I haven’t really for seven years, and even before that left ludicrous Advertisement and Design jobs because I didn’t want to be in an office, or an office environment. I was very depressed while making perfect money. So then I knew it wasn’t about the money but how I was spending my time. The money you make, but time? Nobody makes that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Writer/Artist/Comedian working out of Miami, Florida, for the last 20+ years making Art, Comics, and more.
“Art is the Transference of ideas as energy. I make work that allows me to give what is driving and inspiring me, to others to witness and understand and give back”
I’m a creator, plain and simple. I like making things. I experience things in my head, and I want to see them in the world and set about making it happen. It’s in that, that I wrestle and create in various media and works, whatever I can muster.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I think to go to the beach in different spots. South Beach is a tourist trap, but go up to Surfside, get a burger and shake and sit by the beach up there, or go to Haulover and take a dip and watch boats pass by with a beer and sunset, maybe have a picnic down in Hammocks park by the sea, north beach and then get a drink at the Anderson, or go inland get some sound Cuban good in Hialeah and get a drink at the Bend or great breweries like MIA, Tripping Animals, or Unbranded in Hialeah
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many things could be listed here, friends and family and more, but in the end, I have to do this arrogant thing, but it was me. I did a lot by convincing myself of my value, ability, and willingness to make and do something. People cheered me on, but from the sides of their mouths, or the roll of the eyes behind my back, they didn’t have faith. It sounds dire, but I do not blame them because sometimes, when you speak crazy, people don’t understand. But when you get crazy done? Suddenly you are a visionary. It’s the way life goes…
