We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaneesha Lechelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaneesha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My business actually started out as a therapeutic hobby to help me cope with anxiety and seasonal depression. The only thing I knew before I started was that I wanted to create something that was therapeutic as well and I chose to make candles.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from a lot of other businesses is that I am hands-on in every aspect because it’s just me! Creating my self-care products is a spiritual experience for me that I don’t take lightly. I won’t create products for public consumption when I am in a bad mood, I say affirmations into all of my mixtures, and everything I do is filled with intention. I want the energy I infuse into my products to be purposeful.

This August is my business’ 5th birthday. Getting here was no easy task. Starting off as a hobby, I had no knowledge of business credit or marketing, scaling or INCI. I took multiple hiatuses when I felt overwhelmed, but being a business that grew from a mental health perspective, I always made sure to put myself first. I am my priority. During those hiatuses, I made sure to tend to myself, but I also made sure to study something to make my comeback a progression for my business.

When you buy from Candle Care, you’re buying dedication, education, intention, love, commitment, and empathy. I feel you. I hear you. I love you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, I’m a homebody! Lol. Depending on the situation, I get mad social anxiety. I kinda feel like most creatives are introverts. But I love to go to brunch. Wake Up and Eat is so good that they’re moving to a bigger location. I don’t think they’re ever empty at their closing time. Ruby Sunshine is good, but also needs a bigger location because the wait time with the hypebeast culture is ridonk. Yes, ridonk. I didn’t realize I was a brunch spot plug until all the restaurants I’ve been to came swirling in my mind.

I also looove Mexican cuisine! We could hunt down some mean Enchiladas Verdes and Margaritas any day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shout out to my family! They support my business and pay like everyone else, so that is a huge plus. Many business owners can attest to having family and friends who want things for free, but they make sure to let me know that my work and effort is seen. They also wear my products often and help draw in new Loves. They’re like walking billboards all off the strength, and I appreciate them dearly.
