We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Campbell, PhD, LMFT and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kate, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

As an entrepreneur and founder of multiple businesses (Bayview Therapy and The Private Practice Startup), the most important factor behind my success is my ability to stay true to my vision. Having a clear vision allows me to stay connected to “why” I do what I do. It keeps me aligned with my greater purpose and passion with a deep desire to help people live lives that they love.

I can remember being in grad school in 2004 at Nova Southeastern University and meeting with my dad, Andy Mitchell – who is an amazing visionary and real estate developer for Auberge Beach in Fort Lauderdale. We talked for hours as we explored my future vision of having a counseling and psychology group practice in Fort Lauderdale with a team of clinicians who are passionate about their work, specialize in different areas, and committed to making a greater difference in our community. We explored my goals, passion, and purpose together. We wrote everything on a large white board, including the steps I would need to take to keep moving closer to my vision.

My vision continued to develop over the next six years as I worked hard to complete my masters and doctorate degrees at Nova. During that time, I simultaneously went on a mission to learn as much as possible about building and growing a private practice through books, courses, and mentorship. It’s not been an easy road. It’s been filled with an incredible amount of hard work, adversity, and unexpected challenges, but ultimately my vision has kept me focused on my goals and dreams.

In 2011, my group practice dream became a reality when we launched Bayview Therapy, which quickly became one of South Florida’s most trusted psychology and counseling private practices. Over the years, I’ve grown our Fort Lauderdale office into a team of 20+ caring and dedicated clinicians. We’ve had the honor of helping thousands of people within south Florida (Broward, Miami, Palm Beach and surrounding areas).

We’re thrilled to expand our reach with a brand new Coral Springs location opening in February of 2021. When I look back and think about the most important factor behind my success, it all comes back to vision. Entrepreneurship is a wild ride with lots of unexpected twists and turns. Having a clear vision helped me stay focused, no matter how many obstacles I run up against. It’s fueled my drive, determination, and persistence to never give up.

Fast forward to 2020… This year has been incredibly challenging in so many ways, especially with COVID-19 pandemic. However, thanks to my ever steady vision, determination, and perseverance, we have been able to safely navigate the pandemic and support our community in the midst of a full blown mental health epidemic.

We are proud to call Fort Lauderdale home. We love our city, the people, families, and our community as a whole. That’s why we love helping people make positive changes in their lives and relationships, leading to greater peace, purpose, happiness, and fulfillment.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Our chic, yet casually sophisticated group practice provides the perfect environment for healing, transformation, and empowerment. In January of 2019, we expanded our Bayview Therapy team and moved into a brand new office in east Fort Lauderdale, Florida less than a ¼ mile from the beautiful Atlantic Ocean.

In February 2021, we’re expanding our team again with a brand new, spa-like westside location in Coral Springs to better serve the Parkland, Coral Springs, Coconut Creek, and West Boca Raton communities.

Hospitality and entrepreneurship runs deep in my family. For the past 60 years, my family owned and operated Ireland’s Inn, a hotel and restaurant on Fort Lauderdale beach. My grandfather, hotelier Jack Ireland, was incredibly kind and caring to all the guests and staff at the hotel. He always worked so hard to ensure everyone was happy and well taken care of. I care deeply about the happiness and well-being of our Bayview Therapy family and each client that we serve. Our company culture is inspired by the values my grandfather instilled in me many years ago.

Our Bayview Therapy brand and interior design elements incorporate the calming, soothing, and awe inspiring colors of our south Florida natural landscape and proximity to the beautiful aqua, turquoise, and deep blue Atlantic Ocean. I wanted people to feel like they are going to a spa on the beach and that all the stress you came in with could start to wash away like a large calming wave washing over your body creating a sense of relief, renewal, and restoration.

We offer individual counseling, couples counseling, family counseling, and psychological evaluations for children, teens, and adults. With 20+ caring therapists who specialize in different areas, we support people across their lifespan. We have helped thousands of people overcome stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, addiction, anger, divorce, parenting challenges, relationship concerns, and difficulty navigating life transitions.

We offer face to face sessions in our Fort Lauderdale and Coral Springs offices and video/phone counseling from the comfort of your own home on our secure telehealth platform. We offer counseling in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Our team offers sliding scales and flexible hours with evenings and weekends to accommodate busy schedules. We can often accommodate same or next day appointments to help people get the relief they deserve.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh this is a FUN question! I love going to restaurants and experiencing the south Florida lifestyle… Here’s what I would suggest:

1. Spend a few days hanging out at the beach or at the pool to soak up the south Florida sun

2. Go to the Spa for a spa day at the Auberge Spa in Fort Lauderdale and then have dinner at Dune

3. Go for a boat ride (if possible) up and down the intercostal to look at the houses and take in the Venice of Americas view

4. Take the Brightline up to West Palm Beach for brunch at Restoration Hardware

5. Some of our favorite restaurants are: Dune, Canyon, Burlock Coast, Casa de Angelo, Capital Grille, or Steak 954 (to name a few local spots)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Since I just shared a story about my dad, Andy Mitchell – who is an amazing visionary and real estate developer for Auberge Beach in Fort Lauderdale. I’d like to acknowledge him since he’s been such a great inspiration to me and a huge supporter of my vision. I’d also love to give a shout out to my amazing husband, Brent Campbell – who also has an entrepreneurial spirit. He is my biggest supporter and always encourages me to keep reaching for my dreams.
