Meet Katriel C. Sarfati | Growth @ UFC & Sweat Equity

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katriel C. Sarfati and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katriel, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve taken my fair share of lumps over the years, like being days away from bankruptcy at 21, and wins like a successful exit with quarterly returns at 28. Of all the questions you asked, this one stuck out to me because risk to me is a filter.
In the Military they teach you that Risk is “resistance” towards you and your goal. That has played out in my life and career in ways such as viewing Risk as just that, resistance… negotiable, something to navigate and or find control over, until it’s a small inconvenience.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Whenever faced with the question “what sets you apart”, I tend to draw a blank: I don’t think I’m extraordinary,
Every success I’ve enjoyed can be traced back to just how stubborn, overly optimistic, curious and hands on I get.
My career trajectory started in high school customizing cell phones with my classmates which morphed into a chain of kiosks that I sold and flipped into what later became a chain of pizzerias, which i sold and started what became a career focused on buying and selling businesses. In no way was it easy, I endured massive losses approaching life the way i wanted it to be, instead of how it actually is. It came at the sacrifice of lost marriages, homes, and much more.
But with all the bad came the good, It has rewarded me tenfold, it’s how i met my Wife Vanessa, built a family and a circle of partners and colleagues I get to call Friends who I happen to make great progress in causes we care about and money with.
Which in of itself has been a masterclass on the power of discernment, avoiding zero sum games, and playing the long game.
Which is what brings me to where I am today, the Health and Wellness space; if there’s anything your readers take away from meeting me, or reading this is that avoiding risk is the surest path to staying stagnant and not building something you can be proud of. That revisiting their relationship with risk is the the difference between being useful and in the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This one’s a fun question, i usually have at least one friend in town a month. The last one was here for 10 days and here was our itinerary.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a book I reference a lot because of how many parallels it draws to (my) life and in helping me course correct, “What makes Sammy run?” by Budd Shulberg as well as “The Order of Time” by Carlo Rovelli.
Indirectly watching the careers of Carl Icahn, Michael Ovitz and Curtis (50 cent) Jackson have provided helpful clarity in shaping goals, then working backwards.
