We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiah Wynter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiah, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from Miramar, Fl where I spent most of my years before moving throughout South Florida. My Jamaican-Trinidadian family is full of culture and has shaped me into the ambitious, loving, energetic, strong-minded woman I am today. I’ve always been surrounded by entrepreneurs and go-getters, so it was only natural for me to seek that path through my passions and creativity.
During my early childhood, my parents owned a Jamaican restaurant. I remember working there on the weekends and helping out wherever I could. I even remember a time in elementary school selling stickers and cutout cartoon pictures and getting in trouble because that wasn’t allowed. In hindsight, I think witnessing my parents run their own business is what ignited my entrepreneurial spirit.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
SO SVN is a luxury fashion jewelry house that was launched out of my love for fashion accessories. I was inspired by fashion at an early age by witnessing my mother, grandma and aunts always having their look put together. Whenever it was time to attend an event or family gathering, I enjoyed styling my looks and always including fashion jewelry. I knew that including jewelry would make any outfit pop and created an instant transformation. When I say transformation, it’s not only in appearance, but also in confidence! However, I would often have to replace some of my pieces because of low quality and no longevity. So, it was important for me to create an avenue for luxury fashion jewelry lovers to collect high quality pieces that can last over the years.
SO SVN offers a selection of quality plated jewelry that is highly functional. You can comfortably wear our jewelry from day to night to enhance your looks. You can also virtually try on our jewelry on our website to see what styles compliment you best! It’s a convenient and innovative feature for our customers that love to shop online or are used to trying jewelry on in stores. Eventually, I want to fully design and manufacture all of SO SVN’s jewelry collections. That’s what I’m most excited about! Creativity and originality are important to me, and I believe jewelry is unique as the person who wears it. Our style is bold and glamorous, and I want to incorporate more glass crystals and gemstones in our pieces. With that being said, our upcoming fashion jewelry designs are one-of-a-kind and culturally driven. Our goal is to uplift women through wearable art.
SO SVN is not my first business, so I got to where I am today with a lot of trial and error. I have a degree in Public Relations, but when it came to business, I just jumped right in. It takes way more structure and a proper foundation to be successful. I’ve taken a few business training courses along my journey: Boss Up Your Brand by Doni Brown, The Brand Persona Accelerator by Ta’ler Quick and Entrepreneurial Training by Operation HOPE. I’m a student to life and always willing and ready to learn more. I think being teachable will take you further and most importantly, don’t ever give up! Remember, if it was easy, everyone would do it!
I want the world to know that anything you want and put your mind to is possible. Don’t ever think you are incapable of achieving greatness or your wildest dreams because of your lack of experience or any adversity.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week trip with me would be very chill, but still fun. I enjoy great food, laughing, dancing, shopping and working out.
We would definitely stop a few days at Dynamic Cuisines Food Truck for some amazing, authentic Caribbean food with a twist. Spend some time shopping at the malls and checking out some clothing boutiques. For a workout, I would suggest trying a Pilates class or dance class, and then go to the beach to relax and catch a vibe along the way. We can end the week at brunch or a day party to dance, eat some amazing food and just hang out.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to thank God for leading the way, keeping me grounded and answering my prayers. Shoutout to you!
Shoutout to my parents, Michael and Gloria, for continuously supporting me through my life chapters. Thank you for always believing in my dreams. Your love and encouragement keep me going.
Shoutout to Se, your love is unmatched. You inspire me to go hard! Thank you for encouraging me through it all and for always listening to me ramble about all of my business ideas and goals.
Shoutout to Mya, I do it all for you!
Shoutout to Mia, I truly appreciate your genuine support and encouragement to keep going. We see the best in each other and know there’s no stopping! Thank you for always being there no matter what.
