We had the good fortune of connecting with Krista Resnick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krista, what do you attribute your success to?
Learning to Master the Art of Healthy and Compassionate Boundaries. It sounds so simple, but boundaries are such a beautifully nuanced and deep conversation and strategy. Boundaries are the key to liberation. To freedom. To intimacy, and living a life that is authentic and true.
What should our readers know about your business?
I believe what sets me apart from others is that I am a student of this work. It’s very easy to learn some things in a book, a class, a certification even and then put it back in people’s faces in regard to how you think they ‘should’ show up and live their life.
I want to be a coach who walks in true integrity. I want to walk the walk and talk the talk. This is my greatest hope and aspiration. I want to be a coach who is willing to go to those dark shadow places and allow myself to stay with whatever arises. Whether it’s deep resentment, anger, shame, or sadness-learning to STAY WITH myself has been an essential part of the journey. For years, I abandoned and judged myself for not doing it right, not doing it faster, for being behind and not being polished enough.
However, I’ve embraced my beautiful messy parts. They’ve worked hard for me, protecting me, and striving to keep me safe at all costs.
I strongly believe that you simply cannot take clients where you have not been willing to go yourself. I believe that in order to be successful in my industry, it’s imperative to keep doing the work. Granted I don’t typically have to go as deep as I used to, but there is always another layer to explore. For decades, it appeared as though I had everything together on the outside. This stopped me from wanting to show my messy. It felt vulnerable and exposed.
But one of the greatest lessons I learned was that healing happens when we can bring our shame to the light with people we can trust to hold our stories. I had to finally release myself of the self judgment and give myself the permission to be seen. The real me. No more hiding. It wasn’t easy, however shame heals in the light. Our greatest wounding happens IN relationship so our greatest healing happens IN relationship. It was time to get the support of fellow colleagues and friends to hold loving space for me and allow myself to be seen.
What I would like the world to know about my story is that healing is always possible. For everyone. Just because we have bought into some misunderstanding and limiting beliefs, doesn’t mean we are stuck there. No matter what you are facing, there are always choices. And one of the best choices you can make is learning to be with yourself and love yourself really well no matter what arises. This is the key to freedom and true fulfillment.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first I would hang out in my backyard. We are fortunate to live on a lake in the city I grew up in. The view of the cityscape reminds me so much of my childhood and brings back memories of the awe and wonder that are so inherent in being a kid.
I believe that home should be a safe and peaceful resting space so most company we have loves to just be in our kitchen and sun porch, drinking good wine or coffee and sharing simple food together. Of course, if the weather is appropriate, we would take a boat ride at sunset with a good craft cocktail, specifically a New York Sour. In the winter, we snow shoe or ice fish-think Grumpy Old Men. because that is exactly where I live. It’s actually quite cozy inside the ice fishing shack where lots of fun conversations have taken place through the years.
We love to take visitors to the local wine bars and tap beer rooms. We are a small community so supporting local business is extremely important to us.
Second, we would definitely be in for some hiking outdoors. Nature is one of my greatest therapies. I am known to go for extraordinarily long walks no matter the temperature (well 10 degrees has now become my new limit).
I have found that it’s not always where you go and what you do, but it’s how present you can be with those you love. You could drop me off just about anywhere and I would have a good time with that attitude and approach.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Elementum Coaching Institute and specifically Christine Hassler.
Elementum changed my life in every way. Before, I was gaining some really beautiful results in my life-yet I know something was missing. I would have success for a bit and then seem to sabotage. I couldn’t understand why. Eventually what I came to realize was that I was living life from the mental level. Always trying to figure things out and ‘intellectualize.’ I still was battling my strategies like judgment and people pleasing to create much needed safety in my life. I was unaware how disconnected I was from my feelings and emotions which is where so much of where our truth lies.
Walking through the program and learning about my own trauma, showed me where I was out of integrity with myself but in a loving and kind way. It wasn’t harsh, it wasn’t shameful. It was approachable and healable. I felt such hope.
Elementum Coaching Institute taught me why I had developed patterns such as people pleasing and codependency and how I could heal those patterns in a way that was full of grace and love. I was held by some pretty extraordinary people while I broke free of my shame and deep wounds to finally experience liberation and love on the other side.
Christine specifically is a walking permission to speak truth in a way that is compassionate and honest. The way she embodies her own work calls me forward in my own life to continue integrating the beautiful healing work.
