We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Pitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystal, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Knowing life is meant to be balanced and to know what that looks like is key, we first must tap in to awareness of self. Knowing ourselves will not only help you to find balance but it will inevitably allow you to steer others in the right direction when it comes to you and your needs. We can all get caught up in the “work flow’ trap but with the awareness and being in tune with self is the power of knowing when its time to balance. This balance has changed for me over time because of doing, the more I do is the more answers I keep finding for questions I thought I would never be able to, the more certainty I have when I know what will bring peace and to stay away from the things that don’t. Things like working out, yoga, cooking, gardening, reading, meditation, self care and love (all kinds) help me stay balanced.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am Co-Ower/Co-Founder of iHeartFruitBox, number one trusted source of Fresh Tropical Produce specializing in exotic tropical fruit more commonly found in the Caribbean, South America, Central America, Asia and Africa. We work with trusted small local farmers to harvest the highest quality fruit, securely package and send it out directly to our customers anywhere in the US and Canada. We pride ourselves on reconnecting to where our nourishment comes from as well as capturing that holistic lifestyle to show you how beneficial it is and to help teach others about sustainability and holistic living.
Of course where I am today is definitely not where I started but I wake up grateful everyday for the lessons along the way. Life is our forever teacher and we must be open to continuous learning. Its never been easy but I’m blessed and I would never have it any other way.
I started out flipping pretzels at Auntie Anne’s, working behind the bar at Red Lobster for 2 years then The Ritz Cartlon for 3 years, lost my job due to a hurricane Irma in 2017, worked as a welcome director at a marketing firm for almost a year to officially owning a business and becoming an entrepreneur in 2018 and never looked back since. Along the way I’ve ventured into modeling and film and I don’t think it’ll ever be the highlight of my life but I do think it will always be apart of my life.
Through it all the most important thing is being able to adjust with whatever life throws at you and being aware of the lesson you’re meant to learn. You know the saying “Only the fittest will survive” ? That means, physically, mentally and spiritually fit, its holistic.
As a woman it is also important that we stay in our divine feminine to uphold divine peace and divine balance as the world is shifting to a masculine dominant society which can offset this balance.
A few of the top lessons life likes to teach us and what I’ve learned :
1. Patience
2. Consistency
3. Life likes to test you to make sure what you say you want is actually what you want. It takes WORK!
4. Life is a mirror of YOU
5. Always be grateful
6. Self Care is the best thing you can do for yourself and others.
7. No Man is an island, coming together makes it greater.
I want people to know that I’m not just a pretty face, I’ve worked hard to get where I am and I hope that our community realizes how important it is to stick together and support each other. I look forward to building a community of like minded people where we remind ourselves that we all bring value somewhere, just be powerful in your purpose. 🙂
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh Miami, a diverse Gem.
In Jamaica our motto is “Out of Many One People” and so growing up in a melting pot was normal, different people, different colors but still one in the same. When I came to Miami it was like times 2 because of the additional mix of people and their unique cultures! But this made me feel at home, we are different but the same!
If my BFF was to visit we would definitely do more things outdoors. Day time looks like a visit to a farm in homestead, there are some amazing botanical gardens to see, take a yoga class at my favorite studio Wynwood Yoga or go to the beach where we can ride bicycles along the boardwalk, roller-skate/roller blade, play sand sports or just relax.
Both myself and bff are vegan and don’t drink alcohol but thankfully Miami has a great vegan food scene, a few of my personal favorites are Plant Miami at The Sacred Space, Thatch in Midtown, Planta, Full Bloom Vegan on South Beach and Della Bowls at Doral Yard. They all care about providing quality whole foods that also taste amazing. I do love to cook also and so we would definitely balance the home cooked and eating out.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanted to give a shoutout firstly to everyone who I’ve met along this journey called life that has given me good energy and believed in me, whether still around or not, Thank You!
I want to give a shoutout to my family for always believing in me and always letting me know that they have my back and for always being real. I want to give a shoutout to all the people in my life that were lessons, because even so, I’ve learned what I was meant to and through that have become a better person.
Last but not least, I want to shoutout the love of my life for always being my rock and support system no matter what, for keeping me in check and for loving me the way you do!
