Meet lugufelo | Artist & Sculptor

We had the good fortune of connecting with lugufelo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi lugufelo, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Most of my art pieces bring awareness about what is happening in our community, inviting us to reflect on how can we improve ourselves to bring a positive impact on society.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is about shapes and shadows, looking to awaken the spectator into another dimension of themselves, making them understand what is really important. My first art pieces were wooden mobiles; I was selling them in an urban market in my country of origin; it was very early in my life when I discovered that I wanted to be an artist, since that moment I started my pursuit of arts. Like many young people, I graduated from a career that I didn’t want to exercise, I am a CPA, but I am an artist in reality. After I got married and had my first child, I moved to the US, running away from a country with many social and political issues, with the promise to become an artist, I felt I was in the right place to continue my art journey. In addition to pursuing my dream to become an artist, I was at that moment, an immigrant, I needed a regular job to maintain myself and my family, so I started working as a sales manager at a metal shop. Every morning before starting my daily activities as a sales manager, I used to walk through the shop; it was fascinating to see how those metal pieces were becoming shapes and shadows. I saw art in every single working station. This little metal shop was my biggest influence of all as I had the opportunity to learn from wonderful employees with many years of experience working with metal. And then, I felt the need to create and cut my first metal artwork. This sculpture is now located in Miami on the wall of a private collector. I learn something new every day about myself and my perception of the world with each art piece I create. The things you don’t see or touch are the most important.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend is visiting me, it is unimportant where I take him; just been together and sharing a conversation makes it all wonderful
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize my wife for supporting me on every step I make, for your love, and most importantly for your patience; to my children, you are the joy of my life; and last but not least, to Hermann Hillmann, my friend, my brother, my mentor and the best critic I ever had, without your support, I certainly wouldn’t be here writing these words. I hope that I can make you proud, the same way that I am proud of having all of you by my side as the compass of my life!
