We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luis, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
The truth is, as creatives we quit multiple times in a day. We get overwhelmed when there’s potential within us that almost feels impossible to reach. There’s an itch in your back to always go back and finish what you envisioned for 10 seconds on that random day. It feels like chasing a desire much bigger than life. Giving up doesn’t feel like a real thing, its just an emergency door I see in the back of my head with no actual purpose.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a representation of the stages in my life. Growing up I was never a fan of Chicanos being categorized in a sub-genre. I always cared about being a Rapper and not just a regular one. If I don’t feel challenged when i listen to my friends music i must be around the wrong crowd because having an ear for talent is a big talent in itself. Being a Rapper comes with a big price tag so things like budgeting start to take a bigger role as the years go by and getting your publishing/splits is crucial. The only way to avoid most of your problems in music is by getting educated. I want the world to know that as a Rapper, being brown in America allows me to see what the world sees when they look at us. My Raza is the hardest working crowd in the world, so its impossible to not work hard in the booth when we do it under tough circumstances every day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I come from the Town of Homestead which is an hour south of Miami. People outside of the State overlook our town because its quiet out here. I usually do all the tourist stuff in Miami but I enjoy showing people the backroads in Homestead. When you reach that sort of solitude the night sky is different. We also spend a lot of time in the Keys. The Mexican restaurants in Homestead are the most authentic in the entire state so finding one shouldn’t be hard. My favorite spot would probably be an ice cream shop named La Michoacana.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I got to give a huge shoutout to my Audio Engineer, Komplex. This man has mentored me through the entire business aspect of music. He’s also the person responsible for helping me deliver a unique sound behind the scenes. The music industry is a slick place but building a relationship with him has helped me walk in doors i wouldn’t have seen if it wasn’t for him. I started out as a client but in a funny way it almost feels like I have a business manager.
