We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Moros and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luis, what do you attribute your success to?
I strongly believe that the most important factor behind my success as a student leader is to do and live as it is the first day at my first job. If you have not noticed, the only time an individual performs 110% better than usual by using its skills and abilities is when an individual is working their first day at their first job. If you think about it, in your first job you show up early; you dress your best; you try everything you can to impress your boss. You are patient with your coworkers, even the ones you know are going to envy you or not going to like you but you have to demonstrate your best during your first impression.
On your first day of work, you ask as many questions as you have because no one will judge you, you will double-check everything that you do, you work overnight and do double shifts if you have to do so, you follow all the rules and procedures to do everything accordingly. In fact, you are feeling several emotions that you will only feel on your first day of work; you are never more convinced it is going to be the best job you have ever had than you are on the first day.
This is the real meaning of leadership, living, doing, and inspiring others as it is your first day of work. Live every single day as it is Day One in your life. As soon as you feel it is your second day of work, start planning yourself to leave that place and find another opportunity that makes you do, feel, and notice all the things you do on your first day of work; that’s how you call someone a real leader.
What should our readers know about your business?
Coming to a new country in search of a better life and the American dream is exactly what Luis Moros has experienced. Louis’s family immigrated to the United States from Venezuela to escape the political crisis. Louis was immersed in the American educational system, confronting instability and language barriers. However, he had the foresight to know that he wanted to make a positive difference in the world at his young age. Luis has an exemplary educational background, accumulating over 3800 hours of community service, exemplifying his kindness and passion for the community and those in need.
On the other hand, Luis is the founder and President of two non-profit organizations. One of them is known for being indifferent public schools throughout Miami Dade County. Luis recalls his struggles when he first came to this country. He has collected over $30,000 dollars in school supplies by sending them to public schools in Venezuela.
On the other hand, Luis created an organization at Florida International University to help immigrants finding scholarships, job opportunities and teaching them the necessary tools on how to be a leader. This organization has hundreds of members and is registered under the Registered Student Organization Council at Florida International University.
His excellent service has earned him a nomination for “Student of the Year.” Luis wants to be a lawyer and primarily serve the immigrant community. In honor of his passion, kindness, and gentleness, the Miami Police Department honored him as one of the top 10 students in the City of Miami in the “Do the Right Thing” program. Also, Luis has been recognized by political figures including Former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, Marco Rubio, Rick Scott, and former State Representative Cindy Polo.
Actually, Luis serves as the Junior VP of Registration of the Registered Student Organization Council at Florida International University, Peer Advisor, Peer Mentor, and has been involved in several departments within the university and countless student organizations at FIU. Also, Luis serves as a Student Ambassador and has obtained three different micro-credentials in leadership, emotional intelligence, and has been certified as a student leader at Florida International University.
Luis is tireless in his drive to help others. He is a demonstration of pride, effort, and dedication. Without a doubt, Louis always represents the Latin community by doing the right thing and being a clear brand and example of our next generation.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were on a long trip, I would definitely go to Miami Beach, stay in the nearest Sofitel or Marriot, or even the Versace Mansion. Then, I would definitely go yo Ornos Restaurant at Aventura Mall and will hang out and go shopping all day around the Miami Design District. This plan sounds like a perfect one for me!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My college journey has been quite unforgettable and it would not been possible without the support of tons of people including student leaders, advisors, professors, deans, etc. However, there is always one person that exemplifies your values and serves not only as an advisor but as a mentor throughout your college and personal endeavors; that is Grisel d’Elena.
Grisel has been an impactful person in my life. She has taught me so many values and principles; she has taught me that we can never give up even though when several situations, people, and circumstances demonstrate otherwise. She has supported me and has told me that we are here in this life because we have one purpose: to help and support others to strive for better opportunities.
Undoubtedly, Grisel d’Elena is the main definition of leadership, passion, and dedication towards the youth community, and sometimes professors, advisors, and faculty members do not receive the appreciation that they deserve, but they do not need our appreciation, life has blessed them with amazing jobs, unforgettable connections, and potential student leaders who are always grateful to have personalities such as Grisel D’Elena as a part of their college journey.
