We had the good fortune of connecting with Lynette Barbieri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lynette, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I obviously have more personal time now that my kids are grown so it is a little easier to keep my life somewhat balanced, but there is never complete balance. I just learned to integrate all things into my life and make it all work together.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Lynette Barbieri- Entrepreneur, Financial Expert, Strategic Connecter + Sales Leader
Senior Director of Sales + Business Development for BELLA Media + Co
The first word that comes to mind when I think about entrepreneurship is warrior. Whatever obstacles we have to overcome, every female entrepreneur got to where they are by being a warrior. It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today, but nothing worth it is ever easy right? I learned to overcome challenges by learning to pivot when necessary and to learn as much from my mistakes as possible. The biggest lesson that I learned along the way was to ask for help when I need it and to surround myself with the right people.
I was never a big fan of school when I was growing up, I was not sure of what I wanted to be after I graduated so I did a few different things. When I met my husband he decided to open a pizzeria in New York City, and of course, I joined him and we worked 6 long days a week at that time. We bought and ran a deli after that for 7 more years and when we bought our house in New Jersey, we had two small little girls, we decided to look into a financial business opportunity. I had no background what so ever, but decided to go for it. In three years I became a Regional Vice President, and in the fourth year I made over a six figure income. It worked because I developed a passion for helping women, and families, how to take control of their finances and I trained many associates over the years to do the same thing.
In 2012, when I now had 4 children, and my business was established, I met my now business partner Vanessa Coppes. We decided to forma a much needed women’s entrepreneurial group, The Entrepreneurial Think Tank For Women (ETTWomen), where we teach women to nurture relationships and network with intention and provide them with all the skills they need to have a successful business. We are still running the organization today and we help women from all over the country. My story took a little turn five years when Vanessa took over BELLA Magazine + Media Co. She had asked me if I wanted to join the team in a sales capacity. At first, everyone thought it was absurd, I had absolutely no background in media, however, I saw it as another challenge and an opportunity to learn something totally new and exciting. Fast forward five years, I am still here and loving every minute of it. I believe anyone can learn anything new at any age and become successful if they are passionate about it. The key is to always be open minded to new opportunities so when they present themselves you can recognize them and take advantage of it. I want everyone to know that if I can do it they can do it. Anything is possible, I am a normal ordinary person with an average story and background. I just had the desire to not be average and ordinary and I just did what I needed to do to make it all work.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being in the industry I am in right now, I get to meet exciting people all the time at many different places. I believe that New York City is the hub of everything. When someone wants to meet up I love to go into Mew York and try new restaurants by going in at happy hour and trying different cocktails and apps in all different types of ethnic restaurants. Also, shopping in Chelsea, walking The Highline, exploring Central Park, Free movies and activities in Riverside Park, I love it alI! Everyone needs to visit these places once in their lifetime at least. I also love love Broadway and off Broadway Plays. For all my Seinfeld and Friends fans, they have a musical parody for both sitcoms off Broadway that was really fun and inexpensive. There are many different free concerts New York has to offer in the summer in the parks and Lincoln Center and of course shopping at all the amazing stores New York has to offer. My true love is anything by the ocean. Just going somewhere by the water. It can be Miami Beach, the Jersey Shore, Italy, or meeting up at an all inclusive beach vacation, like Aruba, St. Maarten, Cancun, I am always up for meeting people there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A special shoutout to my work wife, Vanessa Coppes EIC BELLA Media + Co for always pushing me harder and and always having my back, Bianca Cirillo my best friend for 40 years who always believed in me no matter what, more than I believed in myself,
and everyone who has helped me throughout my journey, you know who you are!
