We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddy Allure and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maddy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Initially, I Was in a lot of doubt because there was no concrete guarantee that things would work out. But this is something I’ve always wanted to do. In high school my teacher gave us an assignment about careers we wanted to do. And at the time I wrote down Makeup Artist. Years have passed by since I turned that assignment in and I decided to pursued other things. But my heart kept pulling me back in that direction. When those other things didn’t work out because I felt they were safe I decided just to give it a shot not knowing how it would work out. But I gained A lot of knowledge for my previous experiences that I felt that I could integrate those into really pursuing my career as a Makeup Artist . So I felt more confident in giving it a shot despite all of the doubts.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have a unique style that sets me apart from other artists. I worked really hard to create my own signature style of make up. It took a while to understand what I was trying to create. There was a lot of experimentation in that process. but I feel like I’ve gotten into a place where I know what my vision is and know what I am going for. I started working with a lot of influencers early on in my career which helped me to increase my visibility. I also my credibility there was a lot of pressure at that time because working with people like that. They are constantly creating content, and having photos taken of them for different occasions. You always want to make sure that they look their absolute best because it would reflect on your work. That part was really stressful initially.
To be really transparent, there were times where I didn’t feel I was happy with my own work. and that would create doubt. But I didn’t stop, and I just paid attention to where I needed to practice more. Eventually, I would hit my mark.
A big lesson that I’ve learned is that even though you feel you can’t do it you should allow yourself to try anyway. If I didn’t allow myself to see what I could accomplish, I wouldn’t Be working with high-profile clients now. It’s really scary to go into The unknown, but the Possibility of success is there.
something that’s special is helping people to feel beautiful. You can put makeup on their face, but to see the person happy on the inside and seeing them feel confident. I feel is a very powerful thing and that part is not about the make up. You are changing how people feel.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was visiting the area, I would take them to The standard on Miami Beach to have a cocktail. The restaurant there is on the water and has amazing views. I love that type of vibe and it’s great for networking too!
If it was a week long trip, I would love to go to Japan. I love the fact that it’s very technologically advanced (I’m a low key nerd lol) but also you can Go visit ancient temples and sites. Food-wise, I love sushi and udon noodles so a trip there would really be the perfect type of trip for me. It has everything I love!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Someone that has inspired my vision of beauty is Marilyn Monroe. When I was younger, and I would see her photos I would love the red lipstick and the winged eyeliner. There was something so classic about that type of makeup that I loved. My favorite thing to do is a winged eyeliner.
You can’t go anywhere without practice. Practice gradually improves your skill set and I’m so grateful for the support of all the people that allowed me to do make up on them. A lot of them have been friends and without them, I wouldn’t have been able to get better. It’s something I’m really appreciative of.
I took a course with the a Makeup Artist mentor. The name of the course was how to be a six figure Makeup Artist. That also was so helpful about understanding the industry I was getting into. Lina Zuniga is the mentor, it was so helpful to have someone that I can ask questions to and learn from at the time. shout out to Lina!
