We had the good fortune of connecting with Mahia Keepa-Hale and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mahia, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“A man’s reach must exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for?”

I’ve always held onto this quote..
I feel it applies to times when I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, but also the reward of knowing that I’m constantly being challenged beyond what I think I’m capable of. Through any stressful time I apply it to my situation and it’s encouraging to know that you have to go through these things to know your abilities, limits and what’s left in your tank. The sky truely is the limit!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I had to ask my friend to do a mock interview on me for this one!

As a Brow Artist, the quality of work I produce is a testimony of the practice I place into my craft. I feel it could be the same for all creative artists, but my attention to detail is second to none! Sometimes being a perfectionist has its challenges but with this comes great growth, I’ve definitely learnt a lot of lessons along the way!

Leaving my full time employment to start a small business, which wasn’t guaranteed success, literally felt like the most impossible thing that I could ever achieve! It was not easy at all. I had to learn very quickly how to implement work life balance, healthy wellbeing practice and consistent time management systems. I definitely still learn something new every day

I came from nothing.. Literally nothing and it sounds cheesy but you can achieve anything that you set your mind to! I believe that’s why I’m so motivated and driven. My end goal is to become exclusive in New Zealand, that’s hoping we don’t encounter any more challenges around Covid-19.

I’m proud to know I’m capable of going out alone, especially during these uncertain times of Covid-19. The challenge now is to maintain that consistency

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely the exclusive places and iconic attractions.

Breakfast’s – Terrace Kitchen
Lunches – The Green House
Dinner – Eat Street, eating at different restaurants each night

Monday – Skyline Sky Rides for Gondola and Luge action

Tuesday – The Secret Spot hot tubs

Wednesday – Redwoods mountain biking

Thursday – Lake Tarawera day

Friday – Agroventures for Adrenalin action

Saturday – Rotoiti hot pools

Sunday – Mitai Māori Village for the ultimate cultural experience

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My late father has had a massive influence on all that I’ve achieved and goals that I continue to strive toward. In 2003 he had opened a funeral home as he was a funeral director/embalmer and one day I remember so vividly, the only time I’d ever seen him cry, and it was because he had lost his business. That day I felt a desire to just succeed! It almost felt like I could feel his passion to achieve his goal and it only felt right to take that and run with it! From that point on I had roughly set goals in my head, pre-conceived time frames and drafted resources I would need in the near future. I always knew I was going to own my own business! Before the age of 30 I independently became entirely debt free, purchased a home and started a small business. I extend the recognition to my immediate whānau for support and to my partner at the time, who willingly loved and encouraged me through all my adventurous characteristics.
