We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Alejandra Mejia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria Alejandra, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
It has been more than five years since I started my project, EIBS, and in this time, I have understood better the needs of our community, the neurodiverse community. As I have mentioned, awareness is great and much needed, but we also need to take action and be part of the solution. As per my career, I want to look back and appreciate how my actions impacted the neurodiverse kids and young adults. I’m in the middle of launching a foundation that focuses on neurodiverse young adults’ careers and future; we aim to give them the tools and the space to create an independent and autonomous life, one with meaning and purpose, one they can enjoy. So I see myself surrounded by all these amazing kids and young adults and hearing how they could challenge the system and build their lives and careers.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
EIBS was born in 2017 to create a genuinely inclusive and diverse environment for neurodiverse kids. I was aware that a tailor-made program was needed for neurodiverse kids to bloom and achieve their academic and behavioral goals. We started as a pilot that evolve to a full-time program and we are very proud with our student’s progress.
We also support private schools with their neurodiverse student’s curriculum and training the teachers on how to support their students in the classroom, so they can properly learn, behave and achieve their goals. This year we are offering a reading program certification for teachers that is specially designed to teach neurodiverse kids how to read; it is unacceptable that a kid with all the abilities to learn is not reading.
I’m currently working on creating a foundation to support young adults after they graduated from high school. There’s a lot of talent and I want to make sure they have all the tools and support to build an independent and autonomous life.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Sunshine Learning Miami School has supported my project since the beginning, they opened us their doors and believed that we could create a program to educate, integrate, and challenge neurodiverse students.
