We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Magdalena Suska and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria Magdalena, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Patience. During my workday, I encounter a number of different personality types, some of which may be difficult to handle. Some patients might be belligerent, or their families may be upset and take it out on me. Focusing on being patient helps me resist the temptation to react emotionally to an aggressive situation. Curiosity, willing to learn. Pacing oneself and ambitious mindset.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Patients with heart disease are often under tremendous physical and emotional stress and they often lack the coping skills needed to handle this stress. Cardiac nurses quickly learn how to deal with different personalities, helping patients and family members find healthy ways to cope and take better care of themselves. Often, the motivational patient education provided by cardiac nurses helps jump-start the long process of changing negative lifestyle habits and recovering after a life-threatening event like a heart attack.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Miami is an exciting and vibrant city in Florida with so many different things to do and see. For a short weekend I would recommend to : Do a cycling tour of the Wynwood murals,Do an Art Deco Walking tour in South Beach,Visit the art and science museums at Museum Park and their restaurant Verde. Explore Española Way while getting a Mojito, visit Mandolin Aegean Bistro for great Greek food, Zak the Baker for yummy bread, and Lucali for delicious pizza.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Father, who passed two years ago, is my inspiration for getting interested in the medical field. He was very ill, and watching his experience as a patient made me realize that there is not enough of medical care that want to know the patient as a person, and give the care they deserve.
