We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Victoria & Renée Beauchamp Estrella and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria Victoria & Renée Beauchamp Estrella, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Maria & Renée: For both of us, it went beyond starting our own business. It was an idea that we could not put to rest. Maria, personally, considered herself an entrepreneur and was waiting for that concept that did not let her sleep at night. For Renee, it came as a need to create, and similarly, found something she saw in her every day life as an essential need. Where we came together the most was to found this company on the basis of transparency and communication. It still is a key aspect of our business. For us to stick to our values, it needed to be part of our core. We needed to think about the why and what the driving value is, and if this value can push us the whole way through. We wanted to create a bridge between the hard-working women that provide these services and the equally hard-working women that need and want these services in their day-to-day life. We wanted Basic to be all about your daily needs and how taking care of yourself is one of them. As we spoke more about the issue, we realized it went beyond that, and it became much more about the providers. Knowing their stories and how they hone their craft, and fostering the relationship between provider and client, became one of our main cornerstones. These are women that love what they do, they want to work hard, and are rarely given the opportunity to do so at a fair wage. We wanted to take this even further and make sure we give them a voice, as well. When you think about starting a business, especially with somebody else, you can never forget your “why.” That’s what will keep everything moving forward and remind you of your purpose.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We pride ourselves with being your friendly local app. For us, this means that when you download the app, you know that the providers there are being recommended by a friend or a friend of a friend. This does not leave behind the providers; The beauty pros you encounter in our app are ones we are in constant conversation with. We believe that clients can only get premium service by us treating and paying our providers how they deserve. As an entrepreneur, you expect to have to pivot your business in order for it to survive, but launching amidst the pandemic took this to a whole new meaning. It hasn’t been easy, but we always show up. It’s important to remember our values and our “why,” when we hit the rough moments. It’s what keeps us going. We strongly believe that women are constantly sacrificing their well-beings and putting others ahead. It’s often believed that needs or wants, such as getting your nails done, getting a massage, or even a facial, is seen as extra and unnecessary. However, we understand how essential this can be for the maintenance of your well-being. As we like to say, it’s not basic, just a basic need. Our brand is a reminder that being basic, is what the world needs.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
All: We love to host, we won’t lie. When we have friends visiting us, we would first have them at our house, serve good cocktails and ‘picaderas’ over big talks and good laughs. Next day, a good cheese plate and a delicious glass of wine, sounds about right! We’ve always said that the good thing about Miami, is that you can choose the lifestyle you want. Beach day? You got it. Art museums and drinks after? Absolutely. Greek food? Mandolin, we’re coming for you. Members’ club? Soho, thanks for the visit. Without hesitation, a good Latin restaurant is a must. We need to hear that “hola, bienvenidos!” in that week long trip. So, here’s a breakdown of their trip: – Invite friends over to our house. Jazz background music, Rosé and White wine for the guests, and a good cheese plater. The chef bought food from Trader Joe’s, so we can prepare a good shrimp salad, and order some desserts from our favorite local bakery. – Afterwards, we would go to an outdoor place. We are currently obsessing with Heartland, which has great music and food. The vibe is amazing. Or, we visit our classic go-to place: Lagniappe. – We need to start getting ready to go out! Need a beauty service at-home? Download A Basic App and they’ll come to you! – I would definitely recommend BarMeli69 for a great Greek food experience. The live music is incredible. – For a beach day, I would either go to South Beach or drive to Palm Beach for a nice rooftop experience.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Maria: I would say that so many people helped me get to where I am today, both family and friends. Although, rarely do friends give you a good kick when you need it. I would dedicate this shoutout to those few friends that told me the hard truths when I needed to hear it. It truly helped me focus in life, to hear the truth plainly, and I appreciate it so much. Renée: My sister is my go-to person; and a source of strength. A book that I would recommend 100% is *The Universe Has Your Back* by Gabrielle Bernstein. An incredible book that has given me additional tools to reflect on my life, and guide me through moments where I needed to be centered and reminded- that the universe has my back and I must let the flow of things happen, without losing balance.
