We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariela Galarraga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariela, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Many years ago I stopped working for companies in the administrative area to become independent. I started an events company, then bought and sold clothes, accessories and more. Finally, I took goldsmith classes and dedicated myself to creating jewelry designs for 6 years. When I made the decision to emigrate, I did not know whether to go to the United States or to Spain. So I thought, what could I do anywhere in the world that could make me money? I am one of those who thinks that if you generate money with something that you are passionate about, it becomes easy. That was where I wanted to formalize my knowledge about personalized training. From the age of 14 I started training! I liked having a toned appearance and started to eat healthy. Over time I trained with friends and some paid me little to pay attention to them. So I investigated and in 2015 I began to carry out all the possible certifications up to two weeks before my trip. Three months after arriving in the United States, I got a coaching contract at a personalized training studio. Later it was combined with private clients until today. I created my company MG Training & Wellness, LLC where I am expanding, with products related to healthy living. I make organic pancakes and jams
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
4 years working in a gym, looking for my replacement because I wanted to retire to dedicate myself only to my private clients. Coaches came saying they had a lot of experience and when they started they really didn’t know anything. As a personal trainer, I look for the perfection of movements, I take care of people, I learn to know them and their moods, and turn their emotional weaknesses into their strength. For that, I am proud. I have gotten to where I am today because I believe in myself, in what I do and how I do it. But I’m only at the beginning of what I want to become.
It is not easy, I must make myself known more. I have a lot of challenges that I have to overcome, the biggest one is that exposure boom on social networks, because I am very reserved with my personal life. I just want them to see me as a professional and not as a body that must be exhibited for more likes.
As a lesson I have learned to be constant, that when I go back it is to gain momentum, that every day is a triumph and not to doubt if what I am doing is right, when things are difficult.
The biggest challenge I face is knowing that I am here to accompany people to find themselves for a certain time, it is very difficult for me to detach myself from these people, and to understand that not all people are prepared to improve their lives, because they must leave their comfort zone as terrible as it is.
I want to be known as a normal woman, who can accompany you on the path of believing in yourself and then observing the change. Let them know that I enjoy what I do. Grow my brand, with clothes, accessories, nutrition, and much more…
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first thing I would do is invite him to my house, we would have a long conversation accompanied by a good wine. He would plan according to what he wants to do. I would offer him to go to places like MIami Beach to spend some time. Eat at Kampai, a small sushi restaurant that I love in Kendall. Have breakfast at my favorite bonjour bakery in kendall, walk to lincond road boulevard. I couldn’t pass up going to Wynwood, I love walking through all its streets and eating Morelia gourmet popsicle ice cream.
I don’t really drink alcoholic beverages, just very occasionally, and I don’t like to go out too late either. So part of that visit I would like to spend in small restaurants and at home. And accompany her to buy things, I would take her to the dadeland mall or the sawgrass mills.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In most people, faced with repeated situations in life, when you can’t find a way out and you feel like you’re not moving forward; There comes a point where you hit rock bottom. It’s up to you to bounce back and continue the same thing over and over again or time to reinvent yourself, to look inside. First, I dedicate my triumphs to my husband Yves Parra, with whom I have been with for 23 years with two interruptions along the way. The last separation I took it more relaxed, I said ok hit rock bottom no more, now I’m starting to think about myself. He didn’t know me, he didn’t know what he really wanted, he needed that separation to be able to find myself.
2nd I dedicate it to a friend Jaidy Romero, I met her at that time and from there we were inseparable, she encouraged me to value myself and enter the analytical world, we philosophized daily about the inner being, we never ran out of topics of conversation. And I was connecting with wonderful people who were in the same spiritual vibe and personal growth.
3rd I dedicate it to my Coach Yanis Gutierrez, creator of ACI international coaching academy, who came into my life by chance. I began to enroll in the certifications and he dictated a call Sports Coaching, the group that participated was controversial, because like me we thought it was a course on how to train people in bodybuilding, but it was not how to accompany people to delve into themselves and understand why they are at point A and accompany them with powerful questions to get to point B (their best version). It’s getting the best out of people from the inside out. I fell in love with this wonderful theme. I applied it to myself and my life changed completely. It is worth noting that two years later my husband and I came back more in love than ever, we are the same people who now love themselves, finally we can give love because we do not give it to ourselves first.
I managed to combine personalized training with life coaching, in my opinion they go hand in hand to see how people achieve more of their goals
