We had the good fortune of connecting with Marisol Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marisol, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My background is in the arts. During my childhood I was accepted into the music program at a magnet school here in Miami. There I sang, learned to play the cello and violin amongst other instruments. Later on in high school, I pursued the Commercial Art Magnet program where we had 3 hours daily of art instruction and participated in local art competitions. During my time there I developed a love for going to the local fabric stores and designing my own dresses for school social events. I knew that my calling was the fashion industry. I went on to earn my Bachelors of Fine Art in Fashion Design and I have pursued that calling ever since.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit with a business savvy instinct. Usually artists struggle in this avenue as they are highly creative which I am but sometime lack that business mind, which is totally ok as that allows the artist to focus on their craft while contracting help in areas they are not familiar with. Fortunately, I am able to balance both aspects, however nothing replaces my creative side and that is where I definitely thrive. My mind is constantly at work developing new ideas.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend lives in the D.C. area, but when she is in Miami she knows how to have a good time. I would definitely take her to the city and eat perhaps at Komodo in Brickell and go dancing afterwards. She also loves to visit art exhibits and Wynwood is a great place to do just that.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom hands down deserves all recognition. When I told her I wanted to go to Fashion School, she supported me 100% and has since that day. She is my biggest cheerleader who supports my constant crazy ideas and is why I am here getting to do what I love to do.
