We had the good fortune of connecting with Maurizio Farinelli and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maurizio, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2019, I decided to sell my previous restaurants to pursue my goal to travel the world to expand my culinary horizons. Travelling throughout Italy, Europe, Israel and Japan, has been giving me the inspiration to open a new concept for my new restaurant in South Miami, FL.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a third-generation restaurateur born and raised in Torino (Italy). I opened my first restaurant “Trattoria Sole” in South Miami in 1996. The restaurant proved to be an instant success, drawing a well-heeled crowd that included, among others, actors Michael Douglas, Katherine Zeta- Jones, Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon, Jennifer Aniston, etc. From the opening of Trattoria Sole, I established other successful restaurants as Trattoria Luna and Blu Pizzeria in South Miami. In 2013, I also opened new projects in Coconut Grove as Strada in the Grove, Farinelli 1937 Pizzeria & Cucina and La Rue restaurant.
With my restaurants, I had to opportunity to show my passion for good quality food and the ability to deliver a winning concept that checks all the boxes: desirable location, inviting ambience, excellent service and super cuisine.
I am also an honorary ambassador of the city of Asti (Piedmont) for promoting food and culture throughout the world and i have served as secretary of the Italian Comites, an organization that, under the direction of Italy’s government, develops and promotes Italian culture across the globe.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I moved to Miami from Italy 33 years ago and I have witnessed a lot of changes in the city, however there are some areas that I still love as Coral Gables, Coconut Grove and obviously South Miami, where I currently live. There are very unique restaurants in Miami that I usually suggest and where I go to enjoy delicisious food such as Mandolin Igean Bistro in the Design District and Doma in Wynwood.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been very fortunate to meet and work with very talented people and professionals in the hospitality industry and their support and passion have inspired me throughtout my carreer. I also would like to thank my family in Italy, my brother Max, my girlfriend Roberta, my past and current employees, my friends and all my clients that have followed and supported me for decades in all my restaurants.
