Meet Melanie | Empowering Lupus & Kidney Warriors

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Living with chronic illness, especially something as mentally and physically draining as lupus and kidney failure, can take a serious toll. Some days are incredibly tough, and this quote helps remind me to give myself grace. I’ve learned that even on the days when I feel limited, choosing to do what I can is a powerful act of self-love.
Gratitude has become a lifeline for me. It’s something I consciously practice, even when it’s hard. Taking a few moments to acknowledge the good, whether it’s a kind message, a pain-free morning, or even just the ability to breathe deeply it helps shift my mindset. It doesn’t erase the struggle, but it gives me perspective and peace.
I also find strength in journaling, taking deep breaths, meditating, and praying. Those small, grounding practices help center me and keep me mentally strong. My faith plays a huge role in how I cope and praying to God gives me a sense of purpose and connection that I can lean on during the hard moments.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is rooted in storytelling, advocacy, and connection. I’m a content creator who empowers people living with lupus, kidney disease, and chronic illness to feel seen, supported, and strong—while also sharing the beauty and everyday moments of life outside of my diagnosis. What sets me apart is my ability to balance vulnerability with positivity. I don’t just share the hard parts of my journey—I show people what thriving can look like, even when you’re navigating health challenges.
Getting to this point wasn’t easy. I’ve had to fight for my health, my voice, and my space in a world that often overlooks those with invisible illnesses. There were times I felt weak physically and mentally, but I kept going, creating content even on the hard days because I knew someone out there needed to hear, “You’re not alone.”
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that authenticity is your power. People don’t connect with perfection—they connect with real. And that’s what I try to give my community every day.
What I want the world to know is that my brand isn’t just about lupus and kidney disease—it’s about resilience, joy, wellness, and living life fully. I’m building a space where chronic illness doesn’t mean the end of your dreams—it’s just a different path to achieving them
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Miami for a week, I’d make sure they got the full experience—the music, the food, the culture, the vibes. First stop? Ball & Chain in Little Havana for live music, dancing, and that classic Miami energy. We’d grab some Nicaraguan food at Caña Brava or Pinolandia—both are absolute gems if you want something flavorful and authentic.
We’d definitely spend time on the beach (because, Miami), and maybe go dancing at Guantanamera, where the energy is unmatched and the mojitos are chef’s kiss. I’d show them around Wynwood for murals, cool shops, and great food trucks, then head to Bayside for a more scenic, laid-back vibe by the water.
We’d have a night out in Brickell, brunch in Coconut Grove, and a little retail therapy in the Design District. One of my favorite hidden gems is the jazz bar on Miracle Mile—it’s perfect for a chill night with great music.
And of course, I’d cook for them at my place. Because honestly? My home has some of the best food and the warmest vibes. That’s what Miami is all about—flavor, rhythm, and making people feel at home
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A special shoutout to the lupus and kidney warriors that support me everyday.
