We had the good fortune of connecting with Meredith Clarin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meredith, what is the most important factor behind your success?
What a great question, especially during this extraordinary Pandemic time. I believe that the most important factor that has and will continue to lead to the success of Kitanim Flowers is love. It’s just one word and yet an incredible force that drives us to always exceed customer expectations. I have cultivated this floral business for the past twelve years (with help from my husband and our amazing team), growing all of our accounts (both private and corporate clients) with an attention to detail, an attention to each specific client and his or her floral goals, but the universal connection that keeps us going is the love that inspired this career and the love that I feel each and every day when I design and when I am able to offer people the art of gorgeous fresh flowers. My goal after college was to choose a career that made me happy and also made other people smile. I was told that wasn’t a job goal for a resume, but I wrote it down anyway. Proud to say that this love, this passion for happiness, has and continues to be the secret ingredient to our success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Kitanim started with one client in our tiny Miami Beach apartment. I’ll never forget turning the AC to 50 degrees and wearing a jacket while designing in the middle of summer. With each new client and word of mouth, we transitioned to our first floral design studio, also located on Miami Beach. I think the biggest challenge in my initial years was convincing people that I was old enough to own and run my own business. As far as setting ourselves apart from other florists, I am a true believer that our attention to client goals and exceeding their expectations along with our unique approach to the art of floral design shows our excellence. We love nothing more than finding an amazing floral bloom with a fabulous color and using it in a new way … Ranuculus has always been a favorite flower of mine and I love the idea of incorporating different textures to create stunning floral pieces. Each and every floral design we create has a special sentiment and intention to it and we always try to tell that story.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I grew up in New Jersey, but Miami has become my home. My favorite family place to go is Mile Marker 88 in the Keys. Love the way you can swim, float or paddle board and enjoy a casual lunch or dinner on the rocking chairs. Another fabulous destination activity we always recommend is the Pinecrest Farmer’s Market. Lots of local vendors with amazing fresh food. Current favorites include vegan banana bread and Dragon Açaí Bowls. They have done such an amazing job transitioning to the pandemic and allowing us to “drive thru” in a safe way.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My amazing husband gets the shout out award for always believing in me and supporting me to create , grow and nurture this incredible business. Josh also works diligently behind the scenes to make sure Kitanim is always running at its best.
