We had the good fortune of connecting with Micah Ramos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Micah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is such an amazing yet perplexing action anyone could take; it can be extremely rewarding while simultaneously being intimidating. I’ve always thought of risk as a force that is vital for self-development, something that can give someone that extra “push” we all need sometimes. I will tell you, it’s definitely a force to be reckoned with! Risks can come in several forms; whether it be a decision to make, a contract to sign, or even a leap of faith, it’s so important to take them head-on with the utmost conviction. I’ve had a lot of people leave my life too soon, and the loss of them has taught me to take any opportunity that comes my way and leave no stones unturned. For me, life is way too short to leave it victim to the trivial thoughts that may hinder me from experiencing life in full color and at one hundred percent. Without taking risks, life would be a little too vanilla for me. Dreams are never achieved by avoiding risk and hardships, they come true by virtue of you overcoming them. In the famous words of William F. O’Brien: ” I’d rather try and fail, than never to have tried at all…”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Life has had one heck of a storyline for me! The journey going from someone who was completely unsure of themself to someone who is self-sure and self-confident has been quite the rollercoaster. It took a lot to take a step back and tell myself “look, this is definitely what you wanna do. it’s not gonna be easy, but you gotta do what you gotta do.” By virtue of the trials and tribulations I’ve dealt with, I’ve metamorphosized into an individual who is proud of who I am and what I do. Getting catapulted into the modeling and entertainment industries where there is so much closed-mindedness and becoming not only a catalyst for change in the industry but also a symbol of individuality has taught me so much. Dealing with the hundreds of “no’s” and intimidating side-eyes of casting directors, listening to the ridicule and harshness of the field has really pushed me to persevere and present the best version of myself every chance I get. I learned that being yourself is so important because ultimately, it’s what sets you apart from everyone else. Confidence is the strongest pillar that’ll hold you up and as long as you have confidence and conviction in yourself and what you’re doing, nothing else in the world matters.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week in South-Florida? Is that even enough time? haha! Well first. we’d definitely have to hit up the beach and catch bask in the beautiful sunlight. Then perhaps a food crawl to all the local eateries we can get to! I love discovering “hole in the wall” places and supporting small businesses, especially when it comes to food. When nightfall comes, we’d dress in our finest outfits and take the night by storm, enjoying the local speakeasy’s and night-time art exhibits. Then probably-no, definitely do some shopping along with checking out all the sights to see!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to my friends and family that have supported me throughout my journey. It hasn’t been easy, but you all have definitely made it a million times better.
