Meet Michael Jacques | Author, Coach, Actor and Musician.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Jacques and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
To stop asking for permission. “The power of NO”, as I’ve often taught is the key to success. Saying “No” removes the fear and obligation to barriers in one’s path. As an Actor, Coach and published Author, setting boundaries of what one will and won’t do is essential. I’d also stress that helping others is the solution to living a productive life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
With over 40+ years as a professional in the entertainment business, I’ve learned and shared much with the World around us. The key, the challenge, is finding one’s passion and making it work.
Music, Acting, dance, etc… it’s all the same, uses all the same principles and outcomes. To know and study one art, is to understand them all.
My ability to keep grounded while always finding the humor and irony in life as an artist sets me apart from the pack. No one gets out alive, so make the best of what you got, help others, and make a difference before you leave this mortal coil…
I achieved my goals by sheer tenacity and not listening to others commentary on what one “should or shouldn’t do” in life.
One more thought here: Learn to listen to your “inner voice”, usually, it’s never wrong.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d have them sit in on my acting class, for starters, to see how I roll. People are usually floored when witnessing a real acting class, coached by a qualified teacher. There’s a rush to experiencing what happens when actors train serious.
Then, we’d find a groovy eatery, away from the beaten path.
Follow that up with a trip to a local dive bar, like Tough Times, and let the evening play out… maybe visit on open mic, a museum, and of course the beach.
