We had the good fortune of connecting with Mickey @itchyeyephotos Pierre-Louis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mickey @itchyeyephotos, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My entire career is based upon taking risks. Every time I approach an artist to potentially take a photo of them, I am taking a risk. They could say no and brush me off or say yes and be receptive of me to form a conversation. Every email or direct message I send is making willing to risk being told “no”. I wouldn’t be where I am today without taking those leaps of faith.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My love for music and being around people is what brought me to where I am today. In my junior year of high school, I took a photo elective class. All the funny kids were in the class and told me it was an easy A lol. Little did I know, that class is where I fell in love with photography.

I would attend these house parties with classmates in my age group. I would bring my camera and take photos of my friends. The host of the parties then hired me. I went on to photographing DopeEnt events which is owned by Rolling Loud. My journey was never easy, but I never gave up.

What sets me apart from others would be my ability to be a fly on the wall and capture moments others wouldn’t see the way I do. I’m an introverted photographer but when I have a camera in my hand my confidence is sky high.

I’ve learned that everything takes time. I’m most proud of my journey and how far I’ve come. I can’t wait to see where I’ll take it from here.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take my best friend to a music event and the beach! I would take my best friend to Top Golf (I suck at golf but it’s still fun lol). Coyo Taco and definitely shopping.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family – mom, dad and brother deserve all the recognition in my story. They’re there for me when I feel discouraged, saddened and/or need encouragement. They’re my teammates and I am forever indebted to them.

Fellow photographers – I’ve learned so much from other creatives in this business. They have taught me so much about myself and my work.
