We had the good fortune of connecting with Miguel Camacho and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miguel, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am all about taking risks. Through the years I have discovered a passion for not only design but also illustration, photography and even tattooing. My colleagues have talked to me a lot about focusing in only one area and with that I will have more chances in finding success but I just can’t. Most of the times I find myself within these loops of inspiration or a necessity to do a specific task at a certain time. So far this is how I have managed to create and let my creativity flows. Whatever I am feeling I do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe there are two very important things or factors thats sets an artist from the another one. The first one gotta be style. Every artist grows professionally/technically into something totally different that makes him/her unique in that sense. And the other one gotta be your story and the ability to tell stories, the ability to communicate with the world or even just to put your message out there. I love stories and I think almost everything in life goes around that concept. I am excited to what the futures holds. It could be very scary too but I am usually very excited for this. I would love not only to have my own projects and succeed but also work for a big company/firm and help them achieve their goals with the help of my creativity and skills. I am actually finishing my BFA now at the age of 30. I got my first job as a designer with basic Photoshop skills and from there I had to self-taught everything. I managed to grow from there and get hired by an agency from Spain working here in Miami. That got me motivated to learn more and go back to school.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well Miami is a very strange place. We have a lot of places to go to and very different. One of them would definitely be the beach. Both, Miami Beach and Key Biscayne. I feel they both are different in their own way. The architecture varies too. From Brickell to beach and the Everglades. We have many spots to enjoy the view. Food? What can I say? I believe we live in one of the best cities for that or at least with a huge variety. We have all the Hispanic foods which are many and then we have a lot of good Asian and Italian places too. The Calle 8 area has grown so much in the last years that I would take anyone there for sure. From restaurants to shops and very important, the clubs. Music is in my blood and I love to dance so if you are my friend we are definitely having some drinks and hitting the clubs.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I try to think how everything started with me and I have to say it is illustration. Since the early days I was fascinated by the local cartoons and then when we could afford to watch some from the outside (international) those were the best. I remember pausing the movies or shows in a specific frame and drawing the scenes. I loved anime movies or just cartoons. I think I owe everything to those early days. Those cartoons blew my imagination away and boosted my creativity indeed.
