We had the good fortune of connecting with Milagros Cobos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Milagros, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?

Follow your heart. Once you have a clear goal, choose the strategy, and go for it. There will be setbacks – no doubt about it – but if you are certain that you are following your dream, that one thing that is going to give you either peace of mind, happiness, personal satisfaction, financial success, whatever your desire is, don’t stop!

Don’t listen to those who tell you it’s not possible. Some people never dared to dream; they can’t understand you.
Years ago, I started listening to one of the world’s most renowned motivational speakers, Les Brown. He’d always say: “You’ve Got To Be Hungry!” You’ve got to be hungry to get to the goal, hungry to be who you want to be, hungry to have what you want to have. I am a very persistent person but at times when my level of energy goes down, I tell myself: You’ve Got To Be Hungry. In that very second, I reset my brain, dust off, and keep going.

If you’re ever thinking about giving up, think of the opportunity that God, or the Universe, or the higher power that you believe in has given you. There are other less fortunate, there are individuals who never had an opportunity to dream because they were never taught to dream big or simply because they were too busy living a life that was imposed to them by others.

I always advise people to follow their dreams. Do what makes you happy as long as you’re not hurting yourself or others. We only have one life to live, live it to the fullest. It’s never too late.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I have always been in the people business; I love working with people. I worked for 8 years with United Way of Miami-Dade, an amazing non-profit, where I learned the importance of giving back to the community. I also learned that there are so many individuals who care about others; not only do they give economic support, but they also dedicate part of their personal time to support the community.

Although it was a great experience, I had the real estate dream in me, and I decided to follow it. People say there are thousands of real estate agents in Miami, but I believe in myself and here I am. Has it been easy? Of course not, but difficult doesn’t mean impossible. I am enjoying every minute of it.

I went to work with Keller Williams Realty where I found – once again – amazing people who support and believe in me; and that itself is a challenge.

Working in real estate gives me the opportunity to meet people and provide services, something I really enjoy. I’ve been told a quite a few times: “You give me peace, you make me feel everything is going to be OK”, and that is my goal. I want my clients to know that when they work with me, they are working with someone they can trust and will do everything to make things go right and give them peace of mind. Selling or buying a property is one of the most important events in people’s lives and they need to feel that they are taken care of with professionalism and honesty.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Miami has so much variety that it is easy to pick a few places and your friends would enjoy it.

I’d start my day going to the beach and maybe renting a nice boat to enjoy Miami’s spectacular weather.

My husband and I have become fans of Bulla Restaurant at Coral Gables. We’ll go to Bulla to eat “tapas”, have a glass of wine – or two. Shoutout to Joaquin who is an amazing server at Bulla Coral Gables. We go for tapas, wine, and Joaquin.

Going to the Design District is a must. Art is one of my passions and I believe the Design District and Wynwood define Miami’s diversity and originality in a big way.

I love dancing so we may end up at Cafe La Trova on Calle Ocho for great music and dancing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

It would be selfish to mention just few names because there have been so many moments in life when I’ve met people who somehow gave me support, their friendship, encouragement. I had a serious health issue years ago, and I remember this one doctor who saw me so anguished by the news that she held my hand and asked me, “do you want to say a prayer?”. There are not enough words to thank a soul like that.

If anyone were to ask me, I am in the most interesting stage in my life.
Many years ago, I was in the hotel business in Venezuela, an experience that defined me as a person. I discovered that I love working with people, getting to know them and their culture. Working in the hotel industry had another surprise for me. I met my husband of 28 years. Many years later, I decided to follow my dream in real estate, and I have my husband’s support and my beautiful daughter cheering me on, and I am thankful for that.

Family is very important to me. I am thankful for my mother, she has been a very strong decisive woman; I guess I got that strong will from her. Thank you, mom!

I strongly believe I’ve been very lucky in life. I’ve found wonderful people who support me and believe in me. I hope they are reading this and know that I am talking about them.

Lastly, shoutout to those individuals who care about those in need in our community — whether those needs are economic or emotional support — and most importantly, showing that they care!
