We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan-Lea Fogg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan-Lea, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my personal success, and the success of Nautical Farms is not being afraid to try and learn something new and then adjust as necessary to do what feels good or more aligned. Things very often don’t work out the way we would hope, and being able to quickly adapt and then respond I think is an amazing skill to practice. And it comes in handy in almost every part of life!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Nautical Farms is a regenerative ocean farm in Maine supporting the health & wellness of people and the planet through organic seaweeds as superfoods & skincare.
Our seaweed is organically certified and regeneratively grown using a 3D ocean farming model in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Maine. In the spring, we harvest by hand and dry by sun in greenhouses before crafting and packaging into beautiful, reusable or compostable containers.
Nautical Farms has been a constant evolution of learning and growing. Jake and I have always been committed to sustainability – both in our business practices and in our growth. We aren’t interested in growth for growth’s sake. Our biggest challenge (but also our greatest reward) has been scaling our business in ways that support us, our community, and the planet.
It has not been easy, but we’ve learned that all good things come with time, dedication, hard work and a little creativity.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We don’t live in a city. We live in a very remote, small, uniquely beautiful coastal town in Maine. Our favorite things to do are outside. We love a long nature hike along the Bold Coast, or taking a boat out to the islands and searching for arrowheads on the beaches. We love catching lobster on our way home and then cooking a meal over an open fire outside. We love foraging for fresh berries to make pies and desserts. In the summer, we love waking up early, making coffee and grabbing the kayaks to paddle around a lake before the world wakes up. There is a lot of peace and joy in simple living.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a million and ten people I could thank and recognize. I’ve learned from so many before me, but Jake, my life partner of 11 years, and business partner for 5 years, has always supported my crazy ideas and for that, I can’t thank him enough.
