We had the good fortune of connecting with Mel Cancio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
It’s all about the idea of who you are as a person that translates to who you want to become for yourself, your future kids, your family, loved ones and how you want to achieve your goals.
Every year I define my year with a word or phrase to help me become a better person. I only started doing this a few years back, but it’s become a part of me and I continue to be better with it. This year, I decided that I wanted to be more intentional about what I do with my choices. I give myself a little more confident here and there, but it’s all to achieve the success I want.
My brand comes hand in hand with what my annual goals are. Something I learned in recent months is that the only constant thing in your life is change. And it’s SO true.
I’ve been working on my blog to make it a reflection of my personality and I’m loving it. Surrounding yourself with people who are like minded always helps. My blog has truly grown through my experiences with travel and storytelling.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work in the Real Estate industry with sales and marketing. I work more so with a management team that’s headquartered in Michigan. Most of their properties are in the midwest area of states.
I’m most excited about the people I get to meet throughout my professional experience. Remember how I said I love storytelling? This is one of those times.
I believe what sets me apart from others is my positivity. I know it sounds simple, but I truly take it seriously. It’s the way I have been looking at life.
The road to my professional life wasn’t easy but it was worth it! While I went to school for a whole twenty-six years, I was able to travel the months I needed before really starting my big girl job. I loved being able to do what I wanted before giving my life away. I honestly never thought I would end up in the real estate industry, but I’m loving it so far!!!
I want the world to know that even though you may not know what you want to do with your life, it’s ok! Dip your toes in the water, figure out what makes you happy, and challenge yourself to do things you would’ve never thought you would or could do. I love a good story, so that always helps!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first send them to my blog- www.planeandcheesy.com. Because as of today, I’ve republished it. It’s in the preliminary stages because I still want to offer something timeless to my subscribers and new audience, but it’s coming!
Depending on the vibe you want from either the Chicago area or Miami, I actually have a series that can help with both! There’s different spots to research according to movies, types of cuisines, or even just to support local.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think my boyfriend, now fiancé, deserves a little recognition. We’ve been together for a few years now and he’s truly very encouraging… .most of the time. He’s very detail oriented, knows my strengths and works towards a better future- not only for him but for us. His love language is quite interesting to say the least.
